MS wins 81-78 in OT but it amazes me they did. I swear I got to where I had to close my eyes every time Bowen looked to pass or Gilyard started dribbling.

Ha, typical Meanstreets. Eastern barely touched the ball the entire game and then missed two free throws that could have iced it. He needs to play on a different squad. Not enough balls to go around. He's kind of a square peg on Meanstreets.

The NSB coach is a trip. Goes ballistic on every call. He's the guy who went so insane against the Fire in Hampton or Brooklyn that Mike Irvin got crazy and they eventually had to bring down security to stand between the 2 benches for the last 5 minutes of the game.

St Louis Eagles tip off at 8:30 against California Supreme. Without Tilmon, this is the worst possible matchup for STL: Cali starts Deandre Ayton (7'1, 235; #1 overall in 2017 - fixed typo) and Brandon McCoy (7'0, 220; #8 overall in 2017) inside. They pretty much block every other shot inside. The Eagles will have to be on fire from downtown to stand a chance.

Edit: Looks like McCoy isn't playing with Cal Supreme. Not sure why.

Nojel Eastern finished with a line of 16 pts, 7 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl, 3 blk. Shocking, because as previously noted, he doesn't get many looks at all in the halfcourt offense. It's pretty much Gilyard, Bowen, and Verge attacking the basket and either shooting, dumping it off inside, or occasionally passing out to Lucas Williamson, Isaiah Livers, or Eastern for an open 3. Eastern is a nice, active player and obviously talented. Just not an alpha dog.

Tugs Bowen with a monster performance: 36 points, 10 reb, 3 blk. He's the real deal - could easily put up something like 20 & 8 next year as a true freshman.

Edit: miketherevelator beat me to it!

While some coaches are better than others as far as projecting talent, it is almost impossible to consistently find those diamonds in the rough, i.e., the players who will make that "jump" later in their career in college.

Seems like the coaches that find "diamonds" seem to identify guys who fit their system or have specific skills or aptitudes that the coach can project to be successful in their program. See Ryan, Bo. It's not so much, I think, that these guys were unknown, or had hidden skills that weren't displayed, or that a switch just magically goes on, as it is that with good coaching and good teammates, they learn to be better players and to utilize their athletic abilities more effectively. Those same diamonds, in other situations, may not have become as successful.

Came away impressed by what I saw from EJ Liddell. Athletic, long arms, physical, plays with some 'dog' to him & has great footwork.

#Illini head coach John Groce arrives fashionably late to watch Jordan Goodwin & Co. It's a good one w/ Eagles up 20-17.

Jordan Goodwin is making some silky-smooth drives off the bounce. Stays under control, ready to explode or make a tough pass look effortless

And don't forget J-Good's impact at the defensive end. Like Velcro if Velcro could mean mug at the same time. Determined, grinder, winner.

Jordan Goodwin is in a zone. Just hit a turnaround fade.

Jeremiah Tilmon from bench: "What's good J-Good?"
Goodwin: "He can't guard me"

Obvious News Story Of The Day:
By showing up to every game of Goodwin's, Groce is telling Goodwin that the Illinois want Goodwin really really badly.

Tim Finke has buried a couple of treys. Eagles need him to keep building confidence with each game becoming more & more important.

Derek Piper ‏@DPiperScout
Jordan Goodwin hits a shake 'n bake stepback. Then Tim Finke follows w/ back-to-back hoops, including another three. Eagles are rollin'.

Eagles 2018 PG Darius Garland is straight up filthy. Everything you want at the lead guard spot.

You overestimate college coaches' ability to find players outside of summer ball.

Frazier lives in West Palm Beach?
Pretty large metro area.
You act like he lives in Abingdon, Illinois.

Still want to know if he is playing AAU this summer anywhere.
Want to see how he does.

Goodwin sat the entire overtime. Anyone know why? He was dominating for a long stretch and then Ayton just started erasing every drive and scoring at will. Eagles lost 92-88 in OT. Garland and Finke both looked excellent. Goodwin was terrific for most of the game, but once again struggled to finish against a team with a legit rim protector. And sitting out OT was weird. Cramps maybe?

Did he foul out maybe? I was just checking in on the Eagles game since it looked like they had it well in hand and watched the MS-Playaz game.
