Sorry, but three questions. 1. How tall is Pickett? 2. Is Frazier blowing up too much? 3. IF we use six ships how do we get Finke in '18.

Somewhere between 6'4" and 6'6".... No.... These things tend to work out although Ayo may be a higher priority than TF. Can never have too many ballhandlers

1) pushing 6' 6"
2) no
3) '18 ride(s) will materialize via attrition

2. It's scaring me too. Would be our luck.
3. Finke is not a lock, so reserving him a spot probably not gonna happen if we are lucky enough to fill it with a quality player.

Want to reiterate JGood's stated OVs: Northwestern, Mizzou and us. Granted, he could always add MSU and/or Texas, but Illini fans have to be feeling great right now.

Speaking of feeling great, did Frazier prove himself the last few weeks or what?

Really hoping the staff will be able to laser focus on PFs soon. One would think that joining a 6 man class, with 3 4 stars and a 5 star center would be rather appealing.

I was thinking the same thing. And the higher our probable recruits climb in the rankings, the more appealing it would be for a highly ranked PF or C.

Pickett, Boom! It's going to hurt losing Smith, Eastern and Lewis (well, really, one of them), but maybe Pickett will blossom into the best of the group.

Pickett is already a better pure scorer than any of them. So he's got that going for him.

Let's talk Pickett

I'd love to recap what has been published about Pickett. He's coming here, what's he going to bring?

Here's a round up of what I could find - I'd love to hear more from those that find other analysis of his game on the web or have seen him.

Prep Hoops Illinois August 2015
Belleville Althoff 2017 wing Javon Pickett is a smooth 6’4” wing that has had a great July. He has a smooth perimeter game with allows him to score with ease. Pickett is also an underrated passer for a wing. What you have to like about Pickett is his ceiling as a prospect is very high and he has a projectable game toward the next level. Has a similar skill set to Illinois junior Malcolm Hill who ironically went to the same high school. Pickett just needs to add strength and consistently be assertive to reach his full potential. High-major prospect and top 10 player in 2017.

Henricksen September 2015:
"Ranking analysis: It’s difficult for the Hoops Report to believe this 6-4 wing isn’t among the top 150 prospects in the country. But he’s another player whose game is still emerging and who hasn’t had a lot of national eyes on him just yet."

All-State Selection Article - BND - March 2016
Pickett led the metro east area in scoring at 23.4 points, despite missing a few games late in the season with an injury. Pickett shot nearly 55 percent from the field for a Belleville East team which finished 18-11.

GymRatInsider - ADIDAS GAUNTLET DEBUT - April 2016
"Javon Pickett, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard in the Class of 2017. Javon the first member of Groce’s 2017 recruiting class. Pickett, a Belleville, Illinois, native, plays at the same Belleville East High School that current Illini star Malcolm Hill attended. He has a high motor and plays the game with a lot of energy … Spends majority of the time on the perimeter, but occasionally shows the ability to play with his back to the basket … Uses an effective turnaround jumper inside when posting up … An agile athlete, his strides are extremely long and he covers a lot of space when running the floor … His shooting has improved and he has become a respectable threat from the outside … He has a strong preference going to his pull-up jumper, and once he gets into a rhythm he can string a number makes together (his length and high release make it a difficult shot to contest) … He is fairly comfortable handling the ball in the open court and is capable of pushing it out off the rebound when the situation calls for it … Even with the improvements to his offensive game, he still continues to contribute heavily in the rebounding department … An extremely quick jumper, he is very good at tipping the ball and keeping it alive on the rim … Has the instincts and shows potential in becoming a very solid defender … His ability to get out in the passing lanes and also contest shots inside make him a very dangerous weapon on the defensive end …"

NY2LA Sports Summer Jam - Day 4 Recap - July 2016
"Pickett dazzled with a show of his abilities in a couple games Saturday. Against the Barnstormers and in a later contest, Pickett was a force driving baseline, taking it to the middle off the bounce and finishing in different ways to get the ball through the net. He showed an ability to knock down shots off the pull-up as well. He finished the one contest with 20 points."

Oh great, now no 5-star PFs will come to Illinois because they won't get enough touches!

JFG!

Will happily take a 4 star to complete the class (as will everyone). Guys we seem to have legit chances with: Culver, Kiir, Epperson, U and John. Any of these kids would be great, but one of the first three would be a lot of icing.

Raiquan Gray having a great week here in Vegas. Super strong bodied, play making forward. Hitting his stride last few days for the Vipers

#3 is interesting, because it's actually plausible. Hadn't thought of that. OTOH, Tim will be facing a log jam of 2s and 3s. He may not want to wait. We'll see.

Possible, but very unlikely and pretty much irrelevant. A spot will open up as it almost always does.

I think a few posters here weren't yet born the last time we had no off-season attrition.

Yeah, I mean its possible we have none but very unlikely. Theres always something. Someone is going to transfer somewhere they can get more immediate pt, always happens. Someone could explode and go to the league early. Someone could get kicked off the team. One of these things is most likely going to happen after the season. Given we graduate so many this year. We may not have anyone transfer out.

Gray's a good player, but have the feeling we're on the outside looking in.

Oh, for sure. Chance of 1 spot opening up through attrition >> 50%. OTOH, will be surprised if TF is valued more than Ramey/Ayo/Garland and Gordon.

1. legit 6'5. I'll give him 6'6 though.
2. No. Frazier is ours. Nobody is really even going after him for that reason.
3. I think Michael will take a walk on spot, to play with his brother for a year.

Not a chance on #3.

Curious to know how we stand with the following:

Mayan Kiir
Derek Culver
Terrence Lewis
Nojel Eastern
Theo John

If we are lucky enough to get Frazier and Goodwin to commit, we have one spot open. Those five are my preferred in that order. How are we looking with these guys? Are there other players that we have a legit shot at?

I am curious about that also. Also, I'm having a blank, but I think there are one or two other PF/C types that we might have a chance with?

Gray and Uyaelunmo, but I don't think we have a realistic shot at either. Kiir, maybe.

I honestly still don't understand why people even seriously consider that as a remote possibility.

How many times in the last 20 years has a recruited athlete walked on because because there weren't enough scholarships available? I can think of one at Duke.
