I always bet the field in recruiting but if we have to worry about seton hall and Georgia in this recruitment and northwestern in another then this program has much bigger problems

The thing that worries me of NU is if they let him enjoy the Charlie Ward experience and play football and basketball.

Illinois is a long way from Florida.

Frazier's never been the lock some here have claimed.

Everyone's been assuming that Frazier is a foregone conclusion. I guess it's possible that he's been so vocal about his relationship with Illinois partially as a self-promotion strategy: we're still a decent national brand and for a long time we've been Frazier's best offer (considering the turmoil at KSU and the mess at Baylor). He could be leveraging the threat of an imminent commitment in order to pressure regional schools like Florida, FSU, Miami, UGA, LSU, and South Carolina to offer.

I don't think so, though. I think there's a better than 50% chance we wrap it up next month when he's in Champaign. This is one of the few occasions where I'll take UI against the field (though I wouldn't say it's a lock by any means).

His play the past month or so has made the excitement for him palpable around these parts.

No one's a lock until they sign a LOI and show up on campus eligibile and healthy.

And yes, always take the field.

What are the "informed" and somewhat realistic expectations on the Nojel Eastern recruitment? MSU's to lose?

That's been the consensus. As of right now MSU's class looks like it will most likely be SF Tugs Bowen (#12 composite), G/F Eastern (#61), F Isaiah Livers (#120), and then they'll hope for PF/C Malik Williams (currently considered a Louisville lean) or PF Xavier Tillman (currently considered a Michigan lean). If they miss out on the two big guys, they might be looking at 3-stars or transfers. Still a great class, but fortunately a little bit of a regression to the mean for Izzo after the last two years.

Edit: Unless they pull in Williams (#32 composite) after all. In that case, it's another top-10 class for the Izzonator. Also, it sounds like that's the domino that could send Kiir to Louisville, which would be bad for us (sounds like he may be the staff's top priority after Goodwin and Frazier).

I love Illinois as much as anyone but Illinois doesn't have a profile anywhere near high enough for anyone to care or take notice that he likes the program. I don't think there is a coach in the country that hears someone likes Illinois and thinks, "Hmm...he likes Illinois- I better look in to this kid!"

I get what you're saying, but think about it like this: if a midwest kid had offers from SIU, WIU, SLU, and UW-Milwaukee (a range of smaller local schools - some okay teams/conferences, but nothing high-prestige), then had offers from Baylor and KSU, I would be more inclined to take another look if he also sported an offer from a so-so program with a formerly high-profile national brand (say Pitt, Temple, Arkansas, or GT - all kind of in the same general range as UI the last decade). Of course, that's from the perspective of an armchair recruitnik.

I don't think MSU has shown all that much interest recently. If they still want him, that's probably where he ends up. Michigan and Xavier may be right there at the top for him right now, although UM is similar to Illinois in that they have a lot of wings that he will be competing against for early PT.

Malik is an extreme long shot.

But I want Kiir in the worst way possible and Derrik Piper says that if Louisville gets Malik than our chances with Kiir go way up.

So here's to Malik committing to Louisville.

I tweeted Williams urging him to go to Louisville and he liked my tweet. I've done my part in trying to secure Kiir.

Yeeeeeaaaaaah, you probably shouldn't have done that. Not sure of the context or whether your Illini bias was evident, but if you're actually going to tweet a recruit, maybe keep the message pro your team and not encouraging a kid to commit elsewhere so your team has a better shot with another kid. Poor form

Two recent cb's for kiir to Illinois. One is Meyer the other is a Louisville insider.

:tsk: I swear this fan base does more harm to itself than good on the Internet.

hahaha you two have to be kidding... Not poor form, did not do harm.

Lol, overreacting much?

I highly doubt the tweet was worded, "hey kid, go to Louisville so my team can get their leftovers." I'm sure Williams probably thought it was just a Louisville fan.

Not a big CB guy. That said, that they're from Meyer and the Ville guy means something. Between Kiir and Epperson, what a way to finish the class.

Haha nice. You've done your part my friend. I like it, if our fan base does stuff like that they know we are alive. That's all that matters, be vocal and be noticed. The rest is not going to affect us.

I'm not saying that tweet was harmful or had bad intentions, it's just pretty cringeworthy. I'm late 20's and am not on twitter so I find the whole concept of tweeting 18 year olds creepy and strange.

Cutting his list by 2/3! :D

@victorivve
Thanks to all the schools that offered me, I will have my Top 7 Schools by the end of the week.

Not kidding. There have been numerous times throughout the past several years where Illinois fans have looked like boneheads on Twitter. You're right, tweeting a kid to go to Louisville - even when every post on your Twitter page references Illinois - might not do explicit harm. But being overzealous on Twitter can have negative repercussions, and we have a history of overactive fans on Twitter. I guess this incident was just the icing on the cake after dealing with all of the recent negative talk about Javon Pickett on this board.
