Not kidding. There have been numerous times throughout the past several years where Illinois fans have looked like boneheads on Twitter. You're right, tweeting a kid to go to Louisville - even when every post on your Twitter page references Illinois - might not do explicit harm. But being overzealous on Twitter can have negative repercussions, and we have a history of overactive fans on Twitter. I guess this incident was just the icing on the cake after dealing with all of the recent negative talk about Javon Pickett on this board.

BBN is much worse and it doesn't seem to effect their recruiting at all.

Do you have actual examples or evidence of these negative repercussions? I've heard people theorize that it makes us look bad, but that is inherently an opinion. I've never seen an actual recruit or family member say, "Illinois' fans are crazy and I didn't like it." But it may have happened.

Must we go through this conversation anytime anyone mentions they tweet a recruit? Sheesh, enough already

I'm not counting any chickens after the last few years, but it seems there's a solid chance we finish with a class of

CG - Trent Frazier
CG - Da'Monte Williams
G/F - Jordan Goodwin
G/F - Javon Pickett
PF/C - Mayan Kiir
C/PF - Jeremiah Tilmon

Goodwin blew up at Peach Jam, Frazier did the same at BOTS and Vegas. Kiir had a good summer playing against lesser comp. Same with Pickett. DMW was up and down, but decent overall - really showed his athleticism and had a few good games. Based on summer events, I'm expecting pre-HS season composite rankings to be something like this (give or take a few spots): Tilmon - #30, Goodwin - #45, Frazier - #95, Williams - #110, Kiir - #115, Pickett - #200. Based on current rankings (not far off of my projections), the 247 class calculator gives that class 65.00 points (would have been good for #10 in 2016, #9 in 2015, and #11 in 2014).

I like Kiir but I'm not totally sold. Not because of what he could potentially be as a player, but more of the fact that I think he could be a prime transfer candidate. He's from Florida and Champaign in December is prrrrrobably not something he's used to. Also, he has said he's looking for school with quality education (good for us) but also immediate playing time. With Finke, Black and Tilmon, added with the fact that I would anticiapte Groce using small ball lineups with Nichols and DJW at the 4, plus his relative rawness as a young player, he might not see much court time right away.

Solid is way too strong, I would say it's plausible.

Even with the caveat "I'm not counting chickens," and my generally deliberate and sober tone, this still needs to be said? I didn't say I thought it was going to happen. "Solid chance" only implies that the outcome would not be shocking.

I guess to avoid the opinion police you literally have to start every speculative recruiting post with, "You should always bet the field, none of us really know anything, this is just pure speculation, the end result will probably look considerably different: this may happen (or something close), although since I'm typing it, it probably won't..." C'mon.

Thanks for that summary, that is what many of us are hoping for. I would be ecstatic with that class.

Yeeeeeaaaaaah, you probably shouldn't have done that. Not sure of the context or whether your Illini bias was evident, but if you're actually going to tweet a recruit, maybe keep the message pro your team and not encouraging a kid to commit elsewhere so your team has a better shot with another kid. Poor form

:tsk: I swear this fan base does more harm to itself than good on the Internet.

Well... No need to worry as I didn't say anything remotely close to, "Go to Louisville because I want another target of Louisville to come to Illinois." It was all pro Louisville as if I was a Louisville fan. I appreciate your concern, but I don't try to misrepresent the Illini fan base in any way on social media.

Honestly not a big deal. People get way too concerned about stuff like this. Yea there are weirdos out there but doesn't sound like this was the case at all

I saw the tweet. It was in response to Williams cutting his list to seven which included Louisville and not Illinois. I'd say no harm done on your part.

He didn't just tweet out to Williams everyone. It was in response to his top 7.

Shut up and take my money. I want that class.

Trent Frazier's stock is officially rising. He jumped 46 spots on 247's rankings, making him #122 overall.

Glancing over the updated rankings, no one came even close to jumping 46 spots.

As far as I'm concerned he's top 100 material. Legit lead guards with that kind of athleticism and scoring ability don't grow on trees.

So what makes Frazier a guaranteed pg? When we got DaMonte he was absolutely going to be a pg for us, even though he was more of a combo. Now that we're down the road a little while he has gone to being looked at as only a 2 with ball handling abilities. Even when we got JCL people fantasized for a while (even into his pre-freshman season summer) that he'd be a major player at pg, which, granted, was partly due to all the injuries. So why is Frazier looked at as our next pg, when I guess to me it seems like he's been just as potent offensively as DaMonte and JCL were/are, just maybe not as athletic?

I found this funny!

This July two things stood out as themes from college coaches above all others.....

Brian Snow ‏@BSnowScout
1) "Everyone but me is cheating". Which I find interesting since it would seem impossible for this to happen but coaches are convinced of it

2) "That kid is fine & a good player, but his mom/dad is an absolute psycho. I can't recruit the kid because of him/her"... Which I believe
