Well said - let's focus on the great class coming together. I'm more excited about Illinois basketball right now than I have been in years. That is awesome since this is my favorite sport and team and it isn't close.

+1
Bravo! Let's talk up the kids committed to building the program, and let's avoid tearing others down with baseless accusations.

The truth is, Goodwin has wanted to commit a few times! Most recent was last fall, but each time he got talked out of it by a certain advisor

Not knowing who he was actually recruiting has been a persistent problem with Groce, and yes, that's absolutely a major part of what being a good recruiter is about.

Strikes me that hoping to leverage the support of people who aren't the decision makers into favor from the decision makers has been the strategy for our staff in a lot of these recruitments, and it hasn't worked yet.

I just cannot imagine leveraging a kid and steering him in a certain direction to benefit myself. I know that these are highly desirable jobs that probably pay low to mid six figures we are talking about, but it still makes my skin crawl. Not saying it happened in this case, but it seems to happen quite a bit. I think it's disgusting.

I would be kind of surprised if an assistant job at SLU is 6 figures

Illini fans might want to be careful with using mid-major term. Based on last 10 years I would say Illini results have been very mid-majorish.

Mid Major does not denote results but rather conference affiliation. There are many high quality mid majors that produce better results than low level high majors. The mid major schools would still kill to be in a major conference.

Walker has a pretty damn good relationship with said advisor. They were targeting the right people

Once again, stop posting about illegal benefits unless you have concrete evidence and not assumptions or hearsay. All we know is SLU hired his former AAU coach who JGood referred to as "father like".

He can choose any school he wants, depending on his desires/needs and dreams/aspirations. It may be an impulsive move or it may be a well thought out decision, regardless he will live with the benefits and consequences.

I'll be pulling for him during the year, he has a nice game. But he isn't the only player with desire and high intensity that we are recruiting or have on the team. Once again I think Kipper Nichols is the better pro prospect IMHO. I have followed CB since Aguiree and Isiah were running around in short shorts. Landing JG would be great, but not landing players like Bobby Simmons (1998) had a greater impact. We are solid at that position for years and it is not a difficult position for Groce to recruit. Lets be classy folks.

No one will ever have evidence of impermissible benefits. If they did, they'd turn it into the NCAA and then they'd punish FGCU softball team.

The fact there is some shady stuff has gone on the last few weeks

Still could be an announcement for an OV or narrowing of his list, but it's a little smoky for that.

Billikin's board is in transports of delight.

best case now is we lock up Frazier, Kiir, and let it play out with Eastern, Smith, Kigab, and other SF's. On the next one...

I just drove past Goodwin in traffic. I sang him a line from a classic song: "Wise men say, only fools rush in"
And to which he sang back:
But I can't help, falling in love, with SLU

How is he as far as Elvis impersonators go? Reminds me of that Public Enemy song...

Mayer updated on the 7th, the others that updated on the 8th have SLU. I can imagine an update from Mayer is coming shortly. Does anyone have any hope out there? If he chose Illinois our of nowhere then this would be absolutely nuts!

Don't let hope creep in my friend. It's done, as others have said let's let it go and appreciate how strong this class is.

Has Kiir set up OVs yet with anyone? Would love to see an OV booked with him.

Hey, silly question but if JG is like #50 "as" a Shooting Guard, what's his ranking "as" a Point Guard I wonder...#150 even?
