Tubby had alot of bad luck in minn. He's a good coach, but recruiting up there isn't easy.

Every additional year that Minnesota sticks with Junior Pitino is a good year for the rest of the Big Ten. I honestly can't believe Minnesota fired Tubby to hire L'il Ricky. Their fanbase should sue their AD for malpractice.

That was, for my money, the worst coaching change of all time.

Tubby is what he is and you're probably not winning big with him, but he's a very credible coach. Pitino was by far the least qualified major conference coaching hire of my time as a college basketball fan. He was (and is) not even on the radar screen of preparedness for that job, and with absolutely no ties to the school or the conference to boot.

Between him and the awkward Tracy Claeys situation, it's a pretty big mess up in Minnesota.

Well a lot of fans (and coaches!) from around the conference thought we were nuts to get rid of Weber. I mean after all he won big once (now twice) with another guy's players, so why be greedy? Just because it doesn't work out the way you want doesn't mean it wasn't time to try something different. It's pretty arrogant to say Minny should settle for those kind of results, IMO.

Tubby might be one of the most overrated coaches in CBB by the average fan. The results simply don't support his cachet.

46-62 and never higher than 6th in the B!G after 6 years will do it to you. Sound familiar?

Haha don't confuse us with facts. ;)

I seem to recall a few good years of competition but didnt realize he had a losing record.

I doubt that Epperson would have gone to LaLu if Tilmon had stayed, thus I doubt that Epperson ends up at UI. Too much duplicity. I really like Epperson's game though, tremendous upside.
Somehow I still see JSmith fitting in, in spite of OWWdig thinking we are low on his list. Staff spent way too much AAU time watching him to just have him go away.

I think you meant 'knowing'....:D

And trust me, I hope to be wrong. As an alum of both Stevenson and UofI, I'd love nothing better than to root for one of my 'own'.

He was going there a month before Tilmon transferred.

Re: Epperson

Not sure if I buy the too much overlap theory. Epperson will have a clear path to ~15 mpg. The problem is the second year: same playing time situation. Afterwards, inside track to starting at either 4 (preferable) or 5.

Because Goodwin showed us that staff spending lots and lots of AAU time means we're going to get our . . . oh, wait.

I agree. Both parents being alumni that are very involved with the University has to mean something!

It's going to be a hard sell to any pf's until the 19 class with Finke, Black, and sf's like DJW and Kipper who should be able to slide over with their unique skill set. Gordan is a total stud in 18, and the competition wouldn't bother him. Liddel and Okoro(sp) look like awesome targets for the front court in 19.

It does, it means we still are in it even though his visit went incredibly poorly! That doesn't mean we're the front-runner or even remotely likely to get a commitment. Think of it as like when Depaul makes the top 5 for being the first school to offer..

This doesn't mean that the staff hasn't put in the work. Sometimes it just isnt in the cards.

Any details on why the visit went so poorly?

Matt Humphries' parents went to Illinois, didn't seem to help (though it also wasn't a loss, luckily).

Sorry, Gordon**** along with Shittu wouldn't be scared of competition.

Humpries, a name I haven't thought of for a long time. That was a very important class that never materialized. Dunnigan and Miller were at the top of my wish list. Liggins was up there too.

Tubby's record at Minny (from Wikipedia)

Minnesota Golden Gophers (Big Ten Conference) (2007–2013)
2007–08 Minnesota 20–14 8–10 6th NIT First Round
2008–09 Minnesota 22–11 9–9 T–7th NCAA First Round
2009–10 Minnesota 21–14 9–9 6th NCAA First Round
2010–11 Minnesota 17–14 6–12 9th
2011–12 Minnesota 23–15 6–12 T–9th NIT Runner-up
2012–13 Minnesota 21–13 8–10 T–7th NCAA Third Round
Minnesota: 124–81 (.605) 46–62 (.426)

Minny went 8-22 in 2006-07, the year before Tubby got there.
Winning record overall, losing record in B1G.

Evan Daniels ‏@EvanDaniels 3m3 minutes ago Kentucky, USA 2017 song Jermaine Samuels is headed to Villanova. Significant pull for Jay Wright, Villanova.

Not sure what a song is, but last 5 CBs were for Duke. So yeah, nice get for Wright. Probably not good news for Justin. But not saying it makes it any better for us.

Definitely makes it better for us. Now we're third or so, with a bullet.

This year more than others it appears that Illinois top players are running out of options. Past years I believe we would of been fighting Bigten and othets for our top 5 players. It appears that Tilmon was the only primary for many programs.

Just chatter on Twitter and has not been confirmed by anyone else, but for the Wilkes visit, it's possible that Tilmon, Williams, and Pickett will also be on campus.

I did see Pickett re-tweet the tweet. That would be cool if they did!
