Thought I'd post this since he's been the subject of much conversation on here for 3 years. O'Brien says news may be forthcoming about Alonzo Verge's future next week. (I just hope he ends up at a school I can watch a lot on TV -- love to watch 'Zo play.)

Either one would be good. Think we are in better position with Finke now than we are with THT. Hope THT doesn't end up at NU.

Sadly I have heard that the tides have turned for THT. Mr. Finke your table is ready.:shield:

I heard the tides have turned with Mr. Finke. And THTs table is now ready at Northwestern because we can't take both.

Really depends on the source/spin.

From what I read tOSU was really hot on finke, and sounded like finke was liking them. Still think THT coming to :illinois: , just hope he wants to join us.:chief:

Biggest contenders for Finke are Vandy and Oregon. I really think it will be Vandy or ILL at the end of the day.

Recruiting is fluid, today's info could change by tomorrow, but as of right now I have heard that THT is a NW lean.

I think with Tim Finke it has all to do with Mike really liking Coach Underwoods system now. Tim now sees how he would prosper in the offense after being around some of the workouts. I always felt he would like to also attend Illinois but just wasn't a very good fit in Coach Groce offense.

Love the direction of our team and our recruits but damn it would feel crappy to lose one to NW

We can't take them all. If you're prioritizing Finke over THT and THT goes elsewhere have you really "lost" him? Not if you get Finke and he's your preference. Now if Finke doesn't come and THT doesn't come either, then you could make the argument that you lost THT because you didn't prioritize him.

If THT winds up at NU for whatever reason, yes it will suck to have to deal with him for 4 years. He's gonna be a good one. Just hope Finke is better. :illinois:

We did not want him... ehh... prioritize him anyway.

Definitely agree, but still feeling some shades of Brunson/Evans here where we might be left dateless at the dance. Don't know if we have prioritized one over the other but is Finke that kind of recruit that we would noticeably slow play THT? Genuinely asking as I haven't followed much of his tape or AAU play.

I won't complain about getting Finke instead of THT, but if I had my choice I would go the other way. They are both really good, I just feel like THT has a bit more upside though they are close enough that's not a for sure thing by any means. Especially if Finke could really nail down his shooting.

I've heard good things about Ayo recently, but don't want to get my hopes up too much on that one.

We are not slow playing THT at all. Or Finke for that matter. We will be happy with either. Or both.

Awesome! I seem to recall that Finke had quite a bit of hype his freshman year; going to Kansas midnight madness and all. Has that hype been tempered a bit or is he still a high 4 star/ 5 star talent (knowing that our current staff is focusing on fit and style more so that routine rankings)

USA Basketball U19, coached by Calipari, lost to Canada in the semifinals of the world championships 99-87. Canada was led by top-2019 recruit, RJ Barrett of Montverde Academy who scored 38 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Canada's second best player is much talked ex-Illini recruit, Oregon-bound Abu Kigab (14 pts, 6 rebounds).

Finke has fallen a long way from Burger Boy/First rounder to just inside the top 100. He has not had a good AAU season. 5* hopes are long gone, however with ranking inflation he still holds at 4*.

Ok, I admit the following will sound petty, but if Finke decides soon ( not from what I read, just hope at this point) that Illinois is the spot, I hope he verbals before THT. I don't think I could handle teddy purplestein on that front. It might save a little face, hence the petty comment, but what the heck.

Amazing how fluid recruiting is. Recently, Finke seemed destined to go elsewhere, still might of course, and many reports had THT as a very strong, near lock to us. Now, he appears a strong lean to NU, and Finke is back in the picture for UI.

I heard it was Bear Bryant.

Google is confused. Attributes it to many including:

Vince Lombardi, Paul Brown, Bear Bryant, Joe Paterno

Probably Bear Bryant but maybe Lombardi.

It looks to me that Finke has not quite lived up to expectations while THT seems to be one of those players who have outperformed and is steadily improving and gaining notice?

W's come long before swagger.
JMO...confidence, not necessarily Ws, breeds "swagger". I would expect our team to have "swagger" in game 1 of the coming year based on a new found confidence in the system and coaching...not past Ws.

That's a great sign when BU can get the undivided attention of a big potential recruit to cause him to re-evaluate his college basketball direction.
