There was an article several years ago by a bb player, I'm not sure he gave his name. But he was a 75-100 type ranked player. Said fans get upset when players don't commit to their school, but from this player perspective the coaches held the cards. Talked about trying to get offered at certain school and knowing that he was not their first choice. Also talked about the expense and work he and family put in to get to the level where he could get a scholarship.

I believe Coach Huggins put out a statement about two years ago about offering players and which offers were committable. Basically said all offers were not committable. Like others have mentioned, get the players on campus and push for a commitment in person.

Not sure which coach was asked about this, but his answer was any of their offers are committable. If you look at who they have offered, they are all quality guys. We aren't turning down 4* players if they want to come. Not yet anyway.:D

Dane Goodwin (SG, Upper Arlington, OH) verballed to Notre Dame, which should mean they're out with Finke. I looked at an OSU board, and they were talking about THT. Are they in it with him? They'd certainly have playing time to offer.

I think they offered him about a week ago.

Don't think you are right about taking both Finke and THT. We only have 3 open schollies for next years class at the moment. One would be for Ayo (or potentially another lead guard), One for wing (THT,Finke) and One for a big (Conditt or any of the other options). If there is some roster movement and we end up with 4 slots for '18 then it might be possible we take both.

You are right they only have 3, but with a Guy like Ayo and a couple other they are after, you can still take 3 and you will make room for them. IF THT, Finke, and BIg George would all say they are coming tomorrow, and then AYO say he is you will get them all in

Hearing that Simeon 2018 Talen Horton-Tucker could commit in August and it is likely he stays relatively close to home.

I grew about 3-4" during freshman year and the summer before sophomore year, then another inch before high school was over and an additional inch in college. Unfortunately, I only ended up at 6' 2.5" and not 6'11" like Anthony Davis. Or maybe that was a good thing since my basketball skills are very limited.

Good enough for intramurals though :)

Not sure how you look at that quote as positive from our perspective.

NU is close to home. UI is relatively close to home. The source said relatively close.

Tell me with a straight face that if you were a Kitties fan this tweet wouldn't make you hopeful.

it takes about as long to drive to Evanston as it does to Champaign from Chicago anymore :)

This is probably over analyzing and subjective but wouldn't Northwaestern and Evanston better fit the description of close to home with UII and C/U being closer to fitting the description of "relatively" close to home?

Anything beyond both Northwestern and Illinois being possible destinations is over analyzing.

Probably. My point is, you have to be a huge homer to think it was positive for us.

My issue with the comment was the August timing. I am pretty confident Finke/THT know there is only one spot guaranteed between the two. Informing them is a good negotiating position and it gives them cover with the kids coaches and handlers when they take the first commitment.

If THT really knows he wants to be at UI, he wouldn't be waiting until August and he wouldn't be letting Finke know now.

The only way it isn't NW is if he is deliberately misrepresenting the time frame, and he commits in July.

No knowledge, just logic. Looks like Werner agrees with my assessment. Like I said in an earlier post, I hope I'm wrong...don't want THT at NW.

If he knew he wanted to go to NW he would just commit now too. I don't think he's made a decision right now either way.

Werner on radio show today thinks THT to NU and Finke to UI.

That would be the first recruit we ever lost to Northwestern that we really wanted that I am aware of

Want THT. Finke is going to go on for a while.

I have been on the wanting THT more side for a long time, but really either one would be a very nice get. I have moved over to wanting Finke more only for the reason he was here with EJ on his visit and if He can help in any way land EJ it puts him above THT in my book. I still would be more then happy to land either or both though.

Over the course of our long basketball history, 80+% of our roster has hailed from the state of Illinois Among all of those teams, our best seasons have come when we locked down our own state by consistently securing 3 or 4 of the top in-state players each year (1980's, 1990's, 2000's). While I certainly welcome players like Stewart, I think the proven formula is to "take all the best players from Illinois, and never look back." Don't let Indiana, Purdue, Kansas, Kentucky or Duke take our guys.

Pepper in a Deron Williams when the opportunity arises.

D.J. Stewart is who I would like to see! Kid looks like he has all the tools to shine. Shoots it from deep with ease.
