There's been nothing but good reports and good news come out of the Tilmon camp, so I'm not sweating it. He is probably the least active on twitter of the 4 anyway, so who cares if he hasn't made it twitter official.

Agreed. A picture in O&B wouldn't hurt, though :D

I wonder if any of our recruits have been talking to Smith, especially Tilmon and Pickett ?

I have a feeling Smith will end up at MSU, it just makes too much since for him. He is a perfect fit for Izzo and who wouldn't want to play for MSU?

Actually in 1978 I remember going to the DQ on Green street and ordering a C squared B squared (Chocolate Chip Banana Blizzard). It wasn't on the menu yet, but could be ordered. :thumb:

Now there's a memory. They had that off the menu for several years. Remember ordering it around 1980 or 1981. Usually got my ice cream at that place on 6th that sold ice cream drinks. Maybe Eddies or the bar below Eddies?

What is so sensational about MSU right now? The way we handled them at home or the 20 point beating Kansas gave them when MSU was an 8 seed? Maybe the first round KO to Middle Tennessee last year?

These aren't the phenomenal MSU teams of years ago. If he had a chance to jump to the NBA, at this point, I think he'd consider it.

MSU doesn't wow people anymore. They have a good program, but not elite. I expect us to beat them when they come here....And we do.

I have to take a break from these threads. That's just kooky town.

So your argument against MSU is 2 losses in the NCAA tournament the last 2 years and a road conference loss.

Do we even need to bring up where the Illinois program has been the last few years?

Smith would look better in O&B. I can't let myself take a stance any other way, on an ILL MB of all places.

Are we comparing them to Illinois or are we addressing the, who wouldn't want to go to MSU, question? I can counterpoint holes in the MSU program.

If you're going to go the route of comparing their success to ours, that's a different argument. We don't have an argument. We've been awful.

They are not Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, UCLA, etc....

MSU should be a team that we out recruit in our home state. We have and we should be able to. The other bluebloods....Maybe not so much.

I think Smith is a hell of a player and would get playing time anywhere he goes. However, Cassius Winston is only going to be a SO. next year and is also a hell of a player. Langford is also really really good and also only a SO. Smith would get time but he would probably be behind those guys for years barring an NBA jump. MSU would have a really good team, but Smith wouldn't be getting the starters minutes every good player wants. I think Smith is easily the starting PG day one at Illinois. TJL is a nice piece, but no where near the complete player Mark Smith is.

I agree 100% with this.

I'm sorry but it's not even debatable which program is a better program right now comparing MSU and Illinois. The ONLY thing we have over MSU right now is that we are the home state with other players he is familiar with. Other than that, MSU is far superior to our program in regard to success and coaching.

We may be able to sell our style of offense under new Coach Underwood as more pleasing than MSU's.

You're not the only one thinking that. Was just looking him up: Izzo is one of just SIX active coaches in the HOF. He has SEVEN FFs, a NC, and 20 consecutive tournament appearances. No one wants to play them come March, even when they have a relatively weak team like this year. He's had 5 pros since 2014, and I'm not including Bridges who's borderline lottery.

Some very silly stuff gets posted here.....

And up until a few years ago he could "guarantee" a recruit that if he stayed 4 years that at some point they would reach the final 4.

Can we stop this? Izzo's system has put a lot of people in the NBA. BU can't say that. SFA and OK St aren't Illinois. Going 9-9 in your one year in P5 basketball doesn't give you a system advantage over on of the greats college coaches of all time. This argument needs to stop until BU runs his system successfully at Illinois. It's getting absurd.

Yeah, this past season MSU's offense was #58 on kenpom. But prior to that:

#2, #14, #13, #28, #16

Not too shabby.

I agree, but for a homestate kid to turn down the much better university hmmm. Not everyone is destined for the NBA that degree with UIUC has paid off well for me.

Our hopes for Mark Smith are hinging on:
1. He likes Illinois, like, as a fan (or so we've heard?)
2. He is friends with Javon and Jeremiah (or so we've heard?)
3. Brad Underwood's style should look fun to him, although not more fun than Kentucky or MSU necessarily. Should give us a leg up on KSU, though.

I think we have a good shot, but if I'm betting, I'll take the field over us.

We use to have a "guarantee" if a recruit stayed 4 years that at some point they would go dancing. Not Hill, Morgan, & Tate.:)

Yeah c'mon guys. Like another post said we've got the home state and familiar faces he would be playing with and I feel we would just appreciate him much more here! He has a chance to be a part of a huge resurrection of Illini basketball. These are the opportunities that home state kids cherish if they love the home state school like it's been mentioned he does. Let's hope as fans that's enough to keep him home!

Would love to have Kiir here. He is raw but very athletic. He would have some time to develop but would be a great defensive presence. MSU has Jaren Jackson coming in and he looks absolutely great to me. He and Bridges will be difficult to defend with four guards.

Take our chances on future scholarships as much will be sorted out by next year and there will players not getting much time. Tough to predict which ones but betting on a couple of transfers this year or next.
