Jeez, some of you guys are out of your gourds. Michigan State is a prestigious program and Izzo is an iconic HOF coach. They've been one of the 7-8 best teams in the country for the better part of the last 30 years. In terms of status, they're in the same range as Louisville, way ahead of us given our decade of futility. Eleven years ago our programs were on the same footing; now, MSU is in a different stratosphere. Don't kid yourselves.

Izzo is very good. His record speaks for itself. That doesn't mean Smith will end up there. Kids pick schools for all kinds of reasons. Hopefully, Smith wants to be part of a new direction at Illinois and not just another ho hum few years at MSU.

Interesting to see that MSU is actively recruiting Mark Smith, and Blake Harris for the same position. If Harris goes to MSU, which with all the CB's going their way today, and the fact that he set up an official visit to MSU, I think that there is a very good chance he ends up there. I just don't see Mark Smith going there if Harris is there.

I hope Blake Harris commits soon to MSU, appears MSU has put on the press to get him before they started on M Smith. Harris is a very good athlete, reminds me of a Luther Head type jumper with PG skills. With the guards MSU has onboard and a commitment from Harris I would think we are looking much better. But once again the BU offense fits M Smith so well, tag him along with D Williams and you have two big guards that can hit the 3, cut to the basket, and post.

Agree 100%

It will be interesting of those who have been offered will no longer fit this system. Mainly Finke and Ayo for '18 is who I'm interested in.

I'd be surprised if we brought in another guard or wing for the one of the remaining scholarship. We need big man badly, though most of our offers are to guards still. Obviously that changes if someone transfers and we have another ride open up.

Can we stop this? Izzo's system has put a lot of people in the NBA. BU can't say that. SFA and OK St aren't Illinois. Going 9-9 in your one year in P5 basketball doesn't give you a system advantage over on of the greats college coaches of all time. This argument needs to stop until BU runs his system successfully at Illinois. It's getting absurd.

Who's the last PG from MSU that fared well in the NBA? cleaves? Charlie Bell? That's been quite a while now.

Blake Harris 2017 4*PG plans to take an OV to MSU weekend of April 14th.

If this is true this might just be to officially sign. I don't think he will wait that long to commit if he intends to go there. He might also want to stay home at NCST.

No OV by Smith followed by another PG taking an OV with a run of crystal balls. The crystal ball thing is pretty insignificant until times like these.

Our hopes for Mark Smith are hinging on:
1. He likes Illinois, like, as a fan (or so we've heard?)
2. He is friends with Javon and Jeremiah (or so we've heard?)
3. Brad Underwood's style should look fun to him, although not more fun than Kentucky or MSU necessarily. Should give us a leg up on KSU, though.

I think we have a good shot, but if I'm betting, I'll take the field over us.
I'll add a couple...
1)Its the major school who has been recruiting (offered) him the longest. Granted only months but MSU offered just this week.
2)He will have an assistant coach from his area that has known him longer than anyone on MSU or KU's staff.
3)A chance to play for your flagship state school as that state's reigning Mr Basketball
4)A chance to play for a school that is a few hour drive for family to visit versus taking a plane (Does Lambert even have direct flights to East Lansing or Lexington?)
5)A chance to be a part of the Illini version of Fab 5 with many dynamic other recruits.

I'll add on MSU/Izzo. Izzo is certainly on the Mt Rushmore of coaches. However, he is nearing retirement age and who knows if he will even coach four more years. MSU was just a decent program until Izzo showed up (except one year with Magic). That is easily noted in the latest all-time program ratings that just came out.
