I'd like to think Tilmon and Smith are smart enough to not play at SLU, especially if they want to play at the next level.I don't think either have ever mentioned SLU have they? I wouldnt worry too much about them.

I would generally agree, however, Goodwin can get Tilmon's ear, and Smith would love to play locally and continue being the star. Those 3 at SLU could actually do huge things and NONE are 1 and done....

Tilmon has stated quite a few times, maybe indirectly, that he will go where Walker goes. As long as Walker stays (which seems likely), Tilmon will be at Illinois next year. Plus its a good sign he hasnt asked out of his LOI yet like recruits at other schools have done.

I have no idea on Smith. I feel like he has only mentioned big ten schools and Kansas State as his leaders and cant remember him ever talking about SLU, but who knows. Once again, if Walker stays then I feel pretty good about landing him. If Walker leaves, then who knows. Maybe Ohio State or NW?

Talent would be good, but the coaching would be ??? He had talent at OK State & was terrible.

Smith wants Illinois as long as he likes the new coach. He grew up an Illinois fan.

SLU is a midmajor with a bad coach.

I think Tilmon isn't exactly thrilled with Goodwin for going to SLU... I recall from the Tilmon signing presser that he was somewhat nonplussed about the situation.

I'm more worried about Walker taking Smith & Tilmon to Mizzou. The business of Smith already committing to Mizzou for baseball is #notideal.

If Walker leaves, Underwood better sell Tilmon HARD on himself and Illinois in a non-walker world.

I'm sticking with Thunderwood, but I'm also fine with UIUCMHBBCBCU (WLOSUBTWDAWNPHBATDNVTRSAALBAPFS). You guys can probably translate that easily, but it means: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Men's Head Basketball Coach Brad Cox Underwood (who left Oklahoma State University because they were dumb and would not pay him because apparently they do not value their revenue sports at a level befitting a Power Five school). That's about what it looks like, right Philo?

Everything Brad Underwood said about UI he said about OSU not even a year before... He lied to the face of his players and then a few hours later stabbed them all in the back... Maybe this is the quality of human being people of UI prefer? IDK Calls a meeting, four sentences and a big FU to the people who loved & supported him... This guys a $ grubbing con man, and your AD just offered someone with little success final four money...

If he isn't any good you should be thanking Illinois for taking him off your hands & giving you 3 million to boot. The reason you posted here is he must be a good coach.
He took Travis Ford's (3-15 conference record) mess & with pretty much the same players, made a team out of it.
He left because he saw a better job, with better possibilities, a primarily basketball school, & more money. He did not get along with your AD.
Though the pay he getting from us is pretty much the average of coaches in your league. Plus, his contract has a 8 million buyout in the first year & goes down to 1 million in year 6.
I think we'll take our chances. We'll compare BB records in the next several years.

Why would Smith go to SLU when he has a chance to play right at home or another B1G school that makes no sense. If Walker stays then Tilmon will be at U of I next year and Smith could be here as well.

I have great admiration for the job that Dan Hartleb has done, but the relationship between Mizzou and Illinois (and more broadly, the SEC and the Big Ten) in baseball is not remotely similar to what it is in basketball.

I take your point that being committed to a school must create a sort of "identity" for a person, but I would have to imagine switching sports would wipe the slate relatively clean.

I agree, but like you said. It's the identity. In my mind, when you consider the entire college experience, he already has a level of comfort with that institution in some aspect. Some of the heavy lifting for Mizzou is naturally done.

Not that it'd be any game changer, but it's #notideal.

The same question was asked about Goodwin, yet there he is.

Da'Monte Williams latest tweet says this "50/50". That's it. Hope he is going to be an Illini!
