I think Drury was a joke. I think panther suggestion might have been EIU, although who knows about any of thsi

OK, that makes sense....my first thought when I heard "Panthers" was Greenville College. 30 minutes from Edwardsville and they like to run and gun trying to win with high scoring. They love jacking up NBA 3's while playing minimal defense.

Greenville Panthers have the same kind of the style as Vytautus in Lithuania.....Lavar would approve!

Well said. I wonder how much Smith's departure will affect the recruitment of Liddell. In roads seem to be fading fast in a lot of nice places (Simeon, La Lu, StL area...)

As long as we don't block, should not affect anyone we're recruiting.

Liddell likely not coming here anyways.

Unsubstantiated rumor #????

If 5 Players are indeed gone and those are the 5 that practiced good housekeeping, then here is my guess, based on skill level, playing time, demeanor, etc from throughout the year.

Smith #1 Overwhelmed for most of the year, will never be the GUY, and looking for more?

Finke #2 Playing time diminished greatly, even when returning from concussion, had a great going away game, out to the sandbox to join his brother.

Vesel #3 Playing time will again be limited, the kid is just not ready for B1G Boy basketball, his skill set is there, just way to out of his league presently. Europe.

Lucas #4 Wished he would stay as well, but I think the over recruiting may be more than he wants to deal with, he got out of the doghouse, may never stay out if he remains?

Alstork #5 Gone anyway, thank you for the defense, best of luck in the future.

So with these 5 out of play, best guess is this is who we lose. Starters next year would be:

Frazier
Ayo
Williams
Black
Ebo

Bench players:
Nichols
Trice - Takes one scholly
Jones - Takes 2nd scholly
Griffin- Takes 3rd scholly
Ramey - Takes 4th scholly
Freshman Big Takes 5th
Carry over of the 6th if my math is correct into 2019, with hopes we get Liddell, Okoro, Whitney????

You didn't give Ayo a scholarship

What really hurts isn't just that Liddell isn't coming here. It's that he's probably going to Mizzou.

Werner made it sound like on his radio show this morning that the Leron rumors are very real. Said its still speculation and not guaranteed but is very possible.

Well, that would suck.

We can replace Mark Smith. Heck, I'd argue that Tevian Jones would be an immediate upgrade at the 2/3 position.

But we are not going to replace Black very easily. Even if we somehow got a Josh Cunningham or Trice, losing Black would suck very, very much.

Anything there on the potential of getting Jordan Caroline or Cunningham as a transfer? If we did happen to lose Leron at least getting one of the those guys would help soften the blow and provide a stopgap for next year (longer if Cunningham).

You typically don't hear much on transfers, beyond occasional rumors, even if there has been backchanneling until after a player's season is done. So I'd look out for news in the week after Dayton loses in the A10 tourney and Nevada loses in the NCAAs.

Can I be next to start hearing things?

I don't know about you, but I'm hearing that this Larry Bird guy was thinking about transferring to Illinois until he realized that Underwood was looking for somebody a bit more athletic.

If he transfers after UI hung with him through his legal issues, he's on my naughty list forever. If he wants to play professionally, God bless him.

That’s a little harsh. Leron has been a good soldier, played hard and obviously the University stuck with him through a tough time. I think his debt has been repaid and I would wish him well no matter what his decision. The sooner we all realize that the record next year isn’t going to change significantly the better. It’s about building the talent base and instilling a culture. Adding Frazier and I would argue Spicy G (like what I’ve seen) is a start. Not as big of a start as we were hoping for 6 months ago but a start. If Leron wants to go and try to make the NCAA tournament somewhere god bless him. Let’s see what ends up happening with the rest of this recruiting cycle before we get too dramatic.
