Am I the only one surprised Tate didn't mention Griffin in his podcast?
Or did I tune out and miss it?

Wish I shared the optimism of some on Kane and Jones. I see no reason why they would be in a hurry to commit, but I won't be disappointed if they do.;)

Great clip on Griffin. "BB IQ off the charts" is awesome and tough to see in a recruit. NBA and coach dad is a great pedigree. Very excited.

On Marlon Taylor....if we want the flying illini back he could be a starting point. 50" vertical 6'6" guy? Ill take two to go please!

Marlon Taylor has back to back 30 point games and is leading his team to the Region Tourney.

This kid is the excitement this team needs and fills needs as well.:chief:

Hi, you must be new here.

Loren Tate has been a columnist at the News-Gazette for what, like half a century now? Writes a lot about the Illini sports teams, and has to be pushing 90 years old by now. He's also a curmudgeonly old geezer who doesn't seem to have a whole lot of fresh insight into college basketball in recent years and mostly just complains about how hard it is to get athletes that can pass the admissions standards at the university.

In short, he's not likely to just make things up, and certainly has plenty of connections within the athletics department. That said, he's probably offering quite a bit of opinion here.

Wasn't Tate the one who said Aaron Jordan was going to transfer? These guys don't know what's going on.

Loren is pretty old, and he does have tons of connections. I think that he mainly speaks with a voice of lots and lots of historical experience. He isn't always right of course, and some say he's old fashioned... But he has seen Illinois coaches, players, AD's, Presidents, Chancellor's etc., come and go by the dozens... So he might not have a fresh insight anymore, but he's seen so much, his experiences alone are worth listening to....

I would love to get Ramey. If that happens will definitely bode well for the future. But is he an absolute need for next year? I don't agree with Tate in that regards. Getting a big man is definitely a high priority. Cain and Jones would be a great start. Joneses athleticism and shooting would be a good get.

If we get a commitment from Cain, then Abel might be in play, too. Having both, though, might cause some team chemistry problems.

You don't think winning is the primo driver? It seems to me Trent and Ayo would be suffice to cover the guard position for Liddel and Okoro. Don't understand the Ramey requirement unless it's the relationship thing.

Sure Trent and Ayo could cover the guard position easily. But add Ramey and we could dominate the guard position. That's potentially 3 of the top 5 PG's in the B1G. We would have 2 of them on the court at all times. PG is the most important position and having 3 of them would cover up a ton of deficiencies.

Unfortunately, we have positional gaps AND talent gaps. We would improve by filling either one with the right players. Of course the goal is to fill both.

It'd be pretty awesome. I guess it just seems too good to be true. Ramey would have to be the starting PG, right? He's not coming if he's not, I'd guess.......but apparently neither was Mark Smith. Who knows.

What stood out most is his passing out of the pinch post. Our passing out that this year was always a hand off or at least felt like it. He looks to have a high IQ not the most athletic, but a very nifty player.

This guy is perfect, if he just had a man bun instead of the long hair. Walker

Isn't pretty much ANY big man who will come here "perfect" as long as they don't completely suck?! I mean, we'll be excited about pretty much any big man commit, right?

I still cannot even entertain the realistic possibility that Ramey is coming here.

I realize the staff knows more than we do on these matters, and they are in a better position to judge. But this just seems like a significant long shot.

There is absolutely no reason why a stud PG like Ramey would go to a school with a stud freshman PG, an incoming 5* PG, and a recent history of losing. It's one thing if Ramey wants to go to Duke or UK where they have other stud PGs. But a team coming off a 14-win season and zero NCAA tournaments in 5 years?

Ramey would start from day 1 at Mizzou. I don't know Texas or Oklahoma State's roster situation nearly as well, but I cannot imagine he'd stand a better chance of running the point here than at those schools.

Just doesn't make sense.
