Off the wall question : since Ramey committed once already, is he still limited to five total visits?

Article mentioned two visits thus far, Ok State and Texas (I think) Assuming he visited Louisville prior to committing, it appears this visit does not affect total.

So, since he is a decommit (he didn't sign iirc) does his visit clock reset?

From what I've heard he has three visits remaining. To my knowledge, the number of visits you're allowed never resets.

Kane is the difference maker as he fills the biggest position of need. The others may be upgrades but how much depends on the development and transfers of present roster.

That would be a HUGE hole in the system that I am sure a number of top recruits would have taken advantage of already. I cannot see that resetting

Courtney Ramey continues to add interest

In terms of a timeline for a college choice, Ramey, who had originally committed to Louisville, but decommitted in September following Rick Pitino’s dismissal, is planning to decide within the next two months.

“It probably won’t be until sometime late March or April,” Ramey said.

“I think we’re in a good spot because we don’t know who is going to leave as far as coaches and players situations, so we’re going to look at all of that because we don’t want to go through the process all over again so we’re really just being careful,” he added.

Ramey is not coming here. It's just a pipe dream.

I just hope a blue bloodish program swoops in so Mizzou doesn't get him. That's our best case scenario.

This staff has obviously had big recruiting weekends here already, but I don't think it's hyperbole to say this is the most important one yet. Both these guys fill big holes on the roster. Given the way their first season went and ongoing player attrition, they need to hit these two visits out of the park.

I'm going into this weekend with the opinion that anything less than one commitment is a serious disappointment.

Samba Kane - offers from UIC, UMass and Rutgers
Valdir Manuel - offers from Syracuse, Wake, Seton Hall, Rutgers

What is the disappointing common denominator with both of these recruits? We've reached a level where we're chasing the same talent pool as Rutgers. :(

Interesting. Based on what little I’ve seen from them, Kane looked a little more polished in my eyes.

Manuel has had a more productive HS career—on a good team, facing quality competition. From what I gather on Kane (please someone correct me if I'm wrong) he moved from Senegal to Colorado, played a year there before transferring to his current prep school in Florida. Doesn't sound like he's the main guy on his current prep team (which looks stacked).

I've also seen Kane listed as a '19 prospect in a few places. Likely an age/grade thing for a guy from overseas, but I wonder if he reclassified when he went to prep school—which might effect what schools are after him.

I guess what I can't get past is he is already at a P5 school. Has anyone ever graduate-transferred laterally? I am truly interested to know. The cases I am aware of are playing coming from mid-majors who want one year to prove they can hang in D1.

You need to read the post again, Illinois is a P5 school but is not a college basketball contender. If Black leaves, he will likely go somewhere up the food chain. Whether people want to admit or not, Illinois has been really irrelevant in college basketball for some time now, and we just finished our worst season in 20 years.

Arguably 40+ years. This was on par with 98-99 and 91-92. You have to go back pre Henson to find a season clearly worse than this one.

Would feel a lot better about this class with the addition of Tevian, Samba, and Trice. Wouldn't be the highest rated class, but based off the footage I've seen, could really improve our defense without hurting our offense.

Perimeter : Trent, Ayo, Jordan, Williams, Tejon, Kipper, Tevian, Griffin
Front Court: Leron, Finke, Big E, Trice, Kane, Vesel

Of course in that scenario, there's a couple transfers, but think there's enough depth there to weather a couple. Leron would hurt the most due to the lack of an inside option.

Hold that thought. MSmith was recruited by MSU, Duke, Kentucky, Ohio St. Ebo had a LOI to UIC. Who do you think filled the greater need and maybe the better/impactful player at the P5 level?

I like what I see from Kane and Manuel. Tevian Jones about 6 months ago had mid-majors on his tail, now he has improved his ranking. How about Taco Fall from UCF, good center to have on our team. Probably was a mid-major recruit.

One player too many, so either one more transfers or land one less player. Also 3 players will not play much in a 10 man rotation. At our pace and the fouls we commit, we will be playing 10 players.

I am hopeful that this spawns an overdue discussion of “star ratings...how important are they?”
