Had a chance over the weekend to check out a So Cal regional semi-final game featuring three 2022 Top 40 kids, including Tre White, a wing who I think we were recruiting at one point before he committed (and subsequently decommitted) from Kansas. Only one viewing, but nothing particularly stood out for me about the kid; looks like a plus athlete, but was a secondary player in the game. Granted, there were approx a half dozen future D1 kids on the court. I believe this young man has been enrolled at schools in Texas, Milwaukee and now Los Angeles over the span of less than two years, which makes me go . . . hmmmmmm. BTW, I thought the best kid on the court was 2021 Tyler Powell (and he was one of the lower-ranked kids); hit a clutch 3 in OT to win the game.

The amount of basketball talent in SoCal in the 2021-2023 classes is off the charts good, and hardly any of these kids are committed.

Love Kofi, however:

Kofi > Clifford but < Okafor

Wouldnt let Okafor’s bust of an nba career sully how great of a high school/college player he was. His inside game just didnt translate to the nba....along with some work ethic issues.
We will see how things play out but considering Kofi has only been playing for a short time and had a stellar freshman season I think his ceiling may still be higher. The jury is still out on this..,.

What’s the 411 on Whitney? Any chance he comes here or heading for open seas?

He goes overseas imo, don't see him playing college again unless the 1 time transfer exemption would apply.

To get back to actual recruiting, what is best case scenario with regard to Weston/Etienne for us?

It depends on what transpires in the offseason... We likely won't have rides for either in 2020.

Chatted with a couple of NBA scouts and they told me that they were super impressed with Ayo's jump from year 1 to year 2 and would be interested to see what kind of jump he could make in year 3. Especially when this team is on national championship radar with even more talent.

Could Ayo take another step? Would he be willing to come back and cement his status as an all-time Illini great? Would Miller want to team up with him?

It would be interesting to see... :shield:

ILL in IA

Iowa City
Are the new rules regarding players getting agents/being able to return to college in place yet? Can this help us at all with Ayo and how he tests the waters?

Indy whats your feeling as to what will happen regarding Ayo and Miller for next year?

Still unclear at this point.

When Miller committed I would have told you there was no shot at them playing together, but now I could see them playing together.

I wouldn't be shocked if Ayo goes pro, and I wouldn't be shocked if he came back.

Ayo and his family don't just want to get to the league, they want Ayo to be able to stick in the league. Another year where he takes another step sure would help that case.

Ayo and Miller together next year would be amazing! That would be the exact opposite of what we're used to. It would be nice to have nice things for once!

If Ayo stays, someone else will have to leave to clear a spot for Miller. I realize someone leaves "unexpectedly" almost every year.

If Ayo stays there is no doubt in my mind we will be the top team in the BT. Most likely top 10 in the ratings for 20-21. We would have a great starting lineup with five off the bench with a good team on the floor.
