If Ayo stays there is no doubt in my mind we will be the top team in the BT. Most likely top 10 in the ratings for 20-21. We would have a great starting lineup with five off the bench with a good team on the floor.
If Garza stays Iowa will be good and as usually Bucky with all returning.

Starting to get the impression that the odds are greater Ayo returns than Miller arrives with this chatter.

If Ayo stays us and Iowa will be 1A/1B. OSU, MSU, Wisky probably the next group although Michigan (pending how they integrate their awesome class) and Indiana will be in contention for that. Maryland, Purdue, Minny, Rutgers after that that will be tough but probably not serious contenders.

Ayo and Kofi both returning next year will elicit a collective groan from other B1G fanbases. I will drown that out with my excited screaming.

I have been wondering about this. Is there noise that Miller doesn't want to play with Ayo? Or that he's looking elsewhere? Because his twitter seems pretty pro-illini...

Folks, I'm fairly certain we're going to have a continuously top 10 ranked team for 2020-21. It's going to be wicked awesome.

Illinois basketball has been otvdecline since 2006, with the atmosphere in the building last Sunday could you imagine what a recruit would have thought if the Chief had danced. Incidentally his last dance was in 2007.

While I agree with Moggs, Ayo will not be here next year.

This makes me curious. If he plays his way into a 1st round pick this post season, it's unquestionable he's out. However, with only the first 3 picks in the second round getting fully guaranteed contracts (including Carsen Edwards) it makes me wonder how his decision will play out after the feedback he gets in the off season?
Will he go for a two way contract? A four year deal with only the first two guaranteed?

It's crazy how many variables there are, but 440's comment makes me think Ayo's and his family have already gotten the feedback they need.

Another year and he's gotta be a top 20 pick with a Lottery pick a clearly attainable goal....albeit with the risks everyone knows.

Way way too early to make a call on Ayo. Lots of twists and turns ahead for the Ayo family. If he is in the bottom half of the 2nd round, he is better off going the UDFA way and those negotiations are very complex. Like Skyldub said 2nd round guaranteed money is not a sure thing.
Doesn't Ayo have 2 sisters at UIUC. I'm pretty sure Luther is paying their way.:)

Don't athletes still have the option of buying insurance in case of career-ending injury? Perhaps he will go that route.

Good question. I also should have clarified my post about the first three picks of the second round.....those were from last year. The second round picks have lots of options when negotiating contracts, but the guaranteed money and years are usually much less.

Ayo will get his chance to showcase his talent in the NCAA tournament. The rest of the country doesn't play D like the big ten. I predict he goes off and his stock rises for the NBA. Enjoy him while you can because he gone.

This.

Everyone I have talked with in the NBA ranks tells me that they all doubt he even gets drafted at this point. Why would you go decide to go pro when you have said from day 1 that you don't just want to get to the league but you want to stick in it? It makes little sense to do that.

If he goes then good for him, but selfishly the last thing I want to see is for him to go and then not get drafted. That is a bad look for us.

Ayo stays, the only downside is the risk of an injury, the upside is that he will be on a national stage every single night with a pretty solid chance to advance pretty far in the tourney, being a 1 or 2 seed would not be out of reach.

Now that would sell some recruits. :shield:

Another year would only help raise his stock, just as it did this year. When he goes through pre-draft stuff he will get the feedback I got and we will see what he does with it.

No matter what he decides, I hope he has success, he is the kid that took the risk and put Illini basketball back on the map.

I remember thinking (maybe posting) last year that Ayo's track to success should be like Deron's. Three years with a run in the post season to showcase his potential = Lottery pick. If there's a way to convince Miller that next years team could give 89' and 05' a run at history.....sell him! SELL! SELL! SELL!

Now, if Ayo's showcase is this post season....Let It Be!
