They said the same thing about Zion Williamson a few years back
This is such a weird comparison, Zion Williamson was a 6'7" 280 lb physical phenomenon. He was a top 5 player nationally. His physical skills alone stood out. The competition was inconsequential.

That's the issue with Podz. He is not a physical specimen. If anything he looks perhaps a little below average for a P5 player.

Yet our coaching staff, who has more basketball knowledge in the dirt under their fingernails, than does anyone on this message board seem to like him.

Perhaps we should alert them that Illinois Loyalty Board doesn't think he can carry Tyler Underwoods jockstrap.

That has nothing to do with the fact that a comparison to Zion Williamson is a bad one.

You guys crack me up. Brandin Podz is down to Ill, WF, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Miami. He is Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin and is an elite shooter. His HS coach said he works harder than any player he has coached. You can never have too many shooters. Illini would take him in a heartbeat.

I want all to know that I was ready with more fish puns for this and I caught myself before letting my thoughts fly.

Was looking at the updated 247 2023 rankings (updated today). Some interesting findings:

- The 5th ranked recruit in the country is from Iowa. Highest ranked kid from Iowa since Harrison Barnes? Funny twist is his first name is Omaha (has Illinois offer).
- JJ Taylor from Kenwood took a major leap up the rankings. Went from 40th to 8th in the country. Has to be a good sign that he was playing for Nick Irvin at Morgan Park but is now playing for Mike Irvin at Kenwood.
- Donaven Younger (Bolingbook) tumbled down to 66th ranked.

I totally agree with you, but I will say that Zion Williamson did not play against the best in high school either and he turned out to be impressive
Same with Anthony Davis who played at some no name charter school. He turned out to be alright.

Hi, it’s Jalen Coleman-Landis here. I’m an elite 5-star sharpshooter. I have an extra year of eligibility. Want me back?
