Pinson started every game for the Tigers this past season, took more shots than any player on the team and until late in the year was MU’s top scorer. But discord between the junior point guard and MU’s coaches simmered through the second half of the season, up until the point Cuonzo Martin benched Pinson for the final stretch of Saturday's season-ending loss to Oklahoma in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Martin later explained that senior point guard Drew Buggs was better executing the offense and was playing better defense. Pinson scored just two points in a season-low 18 minutes and struggled guarding OU's perimeter players.

His departure, though not unexpected internally, only adds to the roster rebuild Martin faces this offseason. MU’s five seniors have not formally announced if they’ll return for another year of eligibility granted by the NCAA, though most, if not all, are expected to move on. That means the Tigers will have to replace five of the team’s top six players in minutes played and five of their top seven scoring leaders. MU has five high school prospects signed to join the team next season. Pinson’s departure leaves open another scholarship to add a transfer. Mizzou is expected to heavily shop the transfer market and has already been connected to several transfer targets among the hundreds in the portal.

Well well well.... Looks like it is time for Clownso to start looking for a new gig, steal a few recruits and find a dad who might bring his kids along... I am hearing from a few friends connected to their program his rope is getting shorter.

Oh come on...if you follow Illinois basketball recruiting you know that nothing is a done deal until they step foot on campus.
But you better believe “done deal” will keep getting thrown around regardless

Udoka Azubuike who played for Kansas was drafted as the 27th overall pick by Utah in the first round last year. Him and Kofi game is basically identical! Dunking, rebounding, and shot blocking! True centers like Kofi still have a market in the NBA! He's dominant in the paint! No one can defend him in the paint! And he can defend the paint! That's worth something!
The unfortunate reality for Kofi, at least what he's shown so far, is that he's not a great shot blocker. If he were, he'd be a top 40 pick this year, b/c I agree, those bigs that can lock down the paint (but can't shoot well) still have a lot of value. Kofi's block rate is about half that of Azubuike's in college (same for contemporaries like Bassey) -- he's more similar to Nikola Vucevic in college in that respect than a true shot blocking big. That said, even without shot blocking improvement I still think he can potentially carve out a long career. A guy like Enes Kanter has, and while Kofi's offense may be more raw, he has a lot more physical upside as a post/rebounding specialist. I think that player-type has value, they're just not coveted in the draft -- I'm sure a lot of East teams would try to snap him up if he goes undrafted if only to have a guy that Embiid's big bum can't move out of the post. But if he comes back and can bump his block rate up a good bit (say 7% or higher), I see him quickly moving up draft boards.

I agree with that! I believe he should also at least attempt a mid range jump shot when open! He's not that bad from the free throw line to where he can't hit some.

I'm so glad Mark Smith and Pinson are gone.....Both were big pains in the posterior to me......I see why the Illini program didn't want either one of them....

I don’t care what roster Mizzou fields. They have made a deal with the devil to win that game
Lol, I don't want to "Like" your post but this is exactly how I feel. I don't care how mediocre Missouri is, they'll play their best against Illinois.

Top 10 available basketball prospects in the transfer portal

With each passing year, the recruitment of transfers becomes more and more vital to program’s looking to either sustain success or inject new talent when a reboot is needed.

With the expectation that first-time transfers will soon be cleared to switch schools without having to sit a year or obtain some type of hardship waiver, the proliferation of grad transfers and now a Global pandemic, coaches are turning to the transfer portal more than ever.

Likewise, players are experienced a never before seen freedom to move around and are transferring in greater numbers than ever. As of Wednesday morning, just short of 800 players had already entered the transfer portal. Last year, it wasn't until April 24 that the portal saw that many entrants putting us a full month ahead of last year's record setting transfer pace. The avalanche of players on the move doesn't appear to be stopping anytime soon either.
