LOL. Are there fans of other programs that would take a "hard pass" on a top 5 recruit who would be the best recruit in program history?

I'd rather have a top 5 big than a guard at this point. Especially, if said guard is going to be a 1 and done anyway.

I hear you, but I’m not sold on the 1 and done lottery pick players as good program additions. Kentucky is always volatile from year to year, chemistry has to be rebuilt every season, etc

Are you expecting Bona not to be a one and done wherever he goes, if he even goes to college?

Showing that you can win a recruiting battle with the G League would be HUGE for the Illini.

Sure. My point was if we are getting a top 5 + one and done player, I'd rather it be a big man. That's all.

IMO a top tier big man affects the game in so many ways especially in the B10.

Hard pass. Curbelo needs room to grow and as far as I can tell Hardy would stunt that.

Cant this be said about everyone... Hard pass. Frazier needs r to grow as as I can tell Ayo would stunt that.

There are very few reasons to turn away the best offensive recruit in the country.

Kentucky is always volatile because the majority of their roster is new players every year. Having a single 1 and done player joining our roster full of established players and established culture is a completely different situation.

Huh? Hardy's scouting report sound like his elite skill is shooting. (His NBA comp is Bradley Beal, who as far as I know, has never played PG)

Why in the world would we pass on the #2 player in the country? At ANY position?

In HS Ayo was a listed as a PG, Ace was a PG, Trent was a PG, Curbelo was a PG. We find plenty of minutes for all those guys.

Replacing Ayo and Trent with Burnett and Hardy would be almost too good to be true. If that happens, forget taking a step back next season to rebuild. Expectations might even be higher.

Let me clarify my stance. Probably shouldn't have said "hard pass" so I'll gladly take that wording back.

If we assume Burnett is coming then all I'm saying is I would prefer that the secondary piece he is rumored to be recruiting be a big man. That's all.

Why don't we just get Bona AND Hardy? Problem solved.

Understood. I think we would all love to get a great big man, but one of the great ways to convince a big guy is to show him that he would be surrounded by shooters.

Seems to be working out okay for Gonzaga (Suggs) and OK St. (Cunningham)

Not just G League, the blue bloods too. Big-time statement.

Fitting Hardy in would be a problem I'd love to have. Sure, there'd be a logjam at 1-3 and guys will get less time than they want, but, as long as we're winning, I think everyone will be ok with it. Hardy is a 1AD, lock. If Burnett is lobbying hard for him, it stands to reason he'll be ok with less tick. No denying that BU would be walking a tightrope with his allocation of minutes though.

To a degree. I tend to think of competition for minutes as a good thing. If we get to a point where we are sending guys to the draft every season, it will be a lot easier to replace whomever gets frustrated and transfers out.

It's been 9 years since we had anyone drafted in the 1st round. The idea that a 1AD prospect would even consider coming to Champaign is an exciting development.

Am I missing something here? If Nimari wants playing time why would he be recruiting Hardy? Doesn’t make sense to me

Because message boards like to stick to cookie cutter narratives. If a recruit or worse a transfer wants to know if there'll be a minutes available for him before committing then that player must be A. Selfish and B. Afraid of competition.

120 minutes for 1-3. The bulk of those will go to Curbelo, Hardy, Miller and Burnett. Burnett will get decent-good minutes. As to whether that's enough, is another story. Hutch (knock on wood) and Grandison will play the 4 mostly.

Hutch, if he comes back, would in no way be able to play the 4. Not unless he bulks up another 20+ lbs. We badly need another big who's ready to come in and play right away if Kofi doesn't return if we want to stay a top 10-15 team.

Hardy and Krutwig will be an amazing 1, 2 punch. Bet we could get Larry Bird to replace Antigua too.
