As others have noted y'all are seriously underrating Miller's skills. As a frosh he was better than DJ was as a senior. He's two years ahead of where Ayo was as an outside shooter and as a defender. We saw flashes of ability to get his own shot; if he can develop that he will be an All Big 10 player +
I’m high on Miller too, but he is not 2 years ahead of where Ayo was/is as an outside shooter. Ayo shot 35.2% from 3 as a freshman, while Adam shot 34%. Yes, Ayo’s 3-pt percentage fell to under 30% his sophomore year but he finished this year at 38.6%. Do I think AM will develop into a better 3-pt shooter than Ayo has been? Very possibly. But this narrative that multiple people have said on here that Miller is better shooter from distance than Ayo isn’t true — at least yet.

Really don’t understand lack of appreciation of defense. Much more impressed by Ace’s defensive abilities than any lack of scoring consistency. He will score next year according to his role.

I think he's an outstanding defender, especially his off-the-ball defense. I've said so many times.

The OP was talking offense and I think we only got to see a fraction of what he is capable of due to his role in the offense.

Don't ya think the fact that DJ was on a team that couldn't qualify for the NCAA tourney, while AM was on a team ranked as a #1 seed, would have anything to do with this?? This isn't to take away from DJ, but man, you can't just look at numbers on a stat sheet and draw irrefutable conclusions from them. And even if you wanted to, when you control for PT, their per 40 numbers are almost identical, albeit with lower offensive efficiency but substantially better defense from AM.

Can we all just give AM until at least halfway through his soph year before doubting his potential to live up to his ranking? The last guy we had with an RSCI of 29 averaged 2ppg his freshman year. The year after? Lottery pick. (not saying that is going to happen here, just that patience is warranted)
Of course his playing time and usage rate had something to do with his team being less good. My point (at least with respect to usage rate) was to tie it to efficiency. One player being more efficient than another is not meaningful of much without looking at usage rates (see DMW vs Ayo). DJ had higher efficiency on MORE usage, which is not an easy thing to do. I suspect having two All Americans on his team resulted in AM getting BETTER shot opportunities than DJ usually did. As far as defense goes, DJ was also a very good defender all 4 years he played. Again, DJ didn't progress the way everyone hoped he would, but his freshman year was excellent as far as freshman years go. I think Miller had a strong freshman year, and if he progresses the way that I'm confident he can, he will surely be remember as a better player than DJ. He looks like he'll be a great player and I'm stoked we have him, but DJ was a great freshman too. That's all.

Adam Miller was a ferocious defensive player as a freshman. I was super impressed by him. Most freshmen do not come close to having that intensity & effort on the defensive end. He deferred to the older players some on the offensive side, but I expect BIG things from him next year & I am excited to watch him. I think he had a great freshman year.

Why the hell are people legit fighting over frosh Adam Miller vs (insert any year here) DJ Richardson? This is a recruiting thread. Come on guys. Stop with the stupid arguments for stupid arguments sake.

I can't recall if Franklin ever played a lead guard role in IU's offense. Does he have any chance of doing so here? I think he's a take regardless, but getting a true CG would basically solidify the back court next year.

You can't only look at this from a statistics angle. Watts looked like he was playing on eggshells because Izzo was ready to pounce on him and get in his face for every little mistake. Sure, he was allowed to play through mistakes most of the time but that takes a toll on a player.

Compare that to how BU has treated Curbelo and AM. He gets in their face at times but for the most part let them play at the end of the season. Izzo looked like he was going to blow up on Watts every single game down the stretch (to be fair he did that to every player on that roster).

That said, we can do better than Watts for our squad but I think he does better with a fresh start.
Agree. Played out of position. Looks like a SG, forced to play PG as no one was fit that role after Winston.

In an age of rampant Look-At-Me-ism, Adam Miller has demonstrated himself a true Team player. He came on to a group with a couple of Alphas and quietly assumed a role as nice special spice and an important place and team anchor where he fit right in with the puzzle pieces he inherited.

I don’t know there was any talk of him grumbling or complaining about his role... at least not publicly. He elevated “Team” above his personal ego and desire to shine as any talented player will want to do. In other words, he “bought-in”... and it was almost enough to be a part of getting all the way to the Final Four after years of program obscurity.

Why is this important on a recruiting thread? Miller is the kind of guy the Illini want and need to pursue – wherever they may be found. Miller’s great ball skills. Miller’s team-oriented attitude. Miller’s ability to keep ego in check. And yes, Miller’s flash and flair are fun, too.

One day, Adam might just join the Fighting Illini Mount Rushmore as one of the most talented and beloved players. It’s up him, and the others to make it happen. And, he serves notice to other great Illinois high school players that you can stay home and your blood can run as Blue as anywhere else in the Nation.

Yes, I'm way past tired of the faux Miller controversy or whatever is going on here. Take it to the appropriate thread. I don't want to have to wade through all that to find out information on recruiting.

Ace is a stud. But wow did I use to love watching DJ hound opposing guards the whole way up the floor. I don’t know if his knees got old or exactly what happened, but I feel his freshman year was the last time we had a meaningful press.

I doubt he leaves IU. Woodson is going to let shooters shoot. That's what kids wanna do. I see him retaining Franklin, Jackson-Davis, Hunter, Phinisee.

Agree. On the other hand, it has made it very easy to catch up on the recruiting news, because I have been skimming right over most of the Adam/DJ whatever they are talking about and don't care drivel.

This is the recruiting thread. Just say Miller is a more athletic Larry Bird and move on.

And maybe post a funny .gif.

A quick search indicates Auburn offered on July 10, 2020 and they made his final 10 on July 25, 2020 (IL hadn’t offered yet). TyTy on Auburn: “Auburn’s a really good basketball school and great environment. I’ve established a strong relationship with the coaching staff. And I enjoy watching them compete as coach (Bruce) Pearl lets his guards play.

Illinois offered on Sep. 2, 2020. TyTy committed to Creighton on Nov. 15, 2020.
TY for the research.

EVERY kid says: "Great environment" "Strong relationship" Means little. Fans of other schools hold onto every word a recruit says. When you get older...grow up....you'll realize you have been played. Recruiting will become a drop in the bucket...in life.
