What happens if your last choice for each position commits? Do you withdraw the offer or does making the offer mean you would be satisfied with that recruit and turn down Ayo or DeSousa, etc.

They will not be turning down Ayo, whether or not they have an open schollie at that moment.

That's what's great about forums like this. A mix of youngsters with little to no understanding of history and old people (like me) who can't forget it.

Issue being these recruits almost certainly fit into the former category.

I do not remember what coach said it or where it was reported but, As far as basketball yes all offers are committable so yeah who ever wanted to come here the first 4 that say yes have a place, as someone said later Ayo would have a spot no matter what happened before he is ready to commit I think one or 2 others might be the same. I like the fact that the coaches are offering tons of kids , and its first come first serve . To me is shows they know what they want, and that's all they care about, not stars or rank

Are there limits on how many kids we can offer? Are there limits on how many we can bring to campus on official visits?

No limit, just figure out what to do when you run out of scollies to give, or who you say ah, sorry we are full, when you're waiting.

Like Ayo, hope we don't wait forever, miss something important.

I get the feeling that once someone commits others will follow, I would love for Big George to pull the trigger and Commit, to me that would really help the staff out. Would give them their big with 3 ships left to get any 3 guys that fit . of course you hope for another to have size but wouldn't be as important

Hopefully the Chin connection works but this is going to be a battle.

I think Chin was a very good hire, BU made the right decision. That being said, he is exactly who the Irvin's wanted us to hire. They claimed we needed someone "plugged into Chicago" in order to sign the top-rated Chicago players. Ayo is a 5* talent from Chicago & he plays for the Irvins! We'll continue to play nice with the Irvins and the rest of Chicago, but if Ayo isn't an Illini, we'll have our answer as to how much "we need a Chicago guy on our staff"

Ayo, is highly rated player from Chicago, and i think that the recruitment will see him go elsewhere. Not anything we have done, just don't think we have bright enough lights. Chin already got a good recruit, we see, that's Spicy G:chief:

Chin will do fine here. That wasn't my point. The recruit you mention that he got, isn't the point & wasn't from Chicago. My point is all we've heard from the Irvins & other Chicago coaches over the years is that in order for the U of I to get the top recruits from Chicago, we need a guy that's plugged into Chicago. We put the top candidate from Chicago on staff. While no recruitment is 100% unless you hire the kid's father, haha. If Ayo does not end up here, it will show that all of this talk over the years that we need a Chicago guy, has been total BS

Don't think it is fair to base on one recruit. Crystal Ball has him all UI at this point but it would seem to me to be only a guess at this point. I would like to see some UI games before I committed if I were in his position. He would be the logical one to take MA's place but could be a very good team if we get another big and players develop.

I agree 100%. BU did exactly what they wanted in hiring Chin. He is not only Chicago but directly connected to the Irvins. We have your guy, a fast paced system perfect for high level players, play in a power conference with strong basketball traditions, close to home, and can give a top on the line education. No excuse to not start getting these players.

No excuses but still stiff competition and not all dependent on the Irvins. Kids still have parents, hs coaches, and themselves. Before Irvins we blamed Larry Butler. Butler later said he didn't have the influence people thought he had.

We have Chin and that will help us but not guarantee anything with Chicago recruits IMHO. We need to start winning, being in the NCAA tourney, and sending players to the NBA. That will help more than the Irvins or Chin.

The top recruits are heading to Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, and North Carolina. Pretty much in that order. For still face competition from other top programs (Arizona, UCLA, Louisville) and other power conference schools. We need to start winning with BU and players like Mark Smith need to be headlined.

Wow. Reminds me of Toni Kukoc. Go get him, Coach. :illinois: -L-L

Damn! Lol! I could not get a good read on him from the HL video he does look talented but Kukoc wow if he is that good I may cry with joy his first game if he does sign.

Evan Maxwell the KU transfer ended up at Indiana Weslyan. Not sure why that happened, he had some big offers before going to KU. Looks to be an athletic 6-10 player who dunks everything, had a big game against Notre Dame a couple years back.

Recruiting is weird, not sure why there wouldn't be mutual interest.

Looks like he can run, is patient downlow, and has great hands, would be a big get, then we can focus on wings/guards for 2018. Also gives us a LOT of help downlow this year because this kid looks like he can play 6-10 a game if needed, Greg can play 5-8 when needed and allows us to play KN/LB/MF together more.
