Gill was shorter and maybe less skilled as a HSer than TJ. Gill made himself a great player through hard work.
More Nick Anderson, his drive to hoop , with body control. Like the TJ /Gill comparison, would be awesome if he's any where close. ;):illinois:

Since we are revisiting past targets, what about Tamil Pearson? Would he be a fit? We were interested but was a backup plan, jumped on UAB offer. Better than Braun or golden or different?

A source with Simeon ties told me undisclosed ISU people perhaps posing as insiders made semi anonymous phone calls to THT suggesting there were conflict problems when none really existed thus creating doubts that were unwarranted.

Thanks for sharing, but I would think many that followed this fiasco know basically what happened. I'm sure there are many side stories , bottom line was Ayo came, THT was told no. We will never know all the insides, or what could have been. We do have Ayo , and a good group of recruits, this is the team we will have going into the season, I hope we have success and win many games. I don't think I like rehashing the ins and outs of something that happened that we should say we were even part of. Hope something like that never happens again.:tsk::tsk:

Davis, Cole, and Finke all solid players with Davis being the best of the 3 and likely the least recruited.

Parker Braun has the most impressive offer list and probably did the most at the high school level (multiple state champs) and AAU circuit (EBYL Mokan). That being said I think the closest comparison level wise is Davis, closest skill IMHO is Finke (inside/outside). But once again I think Braun is further along in the skill department of all 3, just don't know if he will have the career Davis did.

Any status on commit? Is this being slow played - by us, him? Does he have other visits elsewhere? Inquiring minds want to know...

Really? Why? I thought Braun was said to have grown a few inches and was a legit 6'10". I don't even think Davis and Cole are similar really. I guess it's all subjective anyways. I don't follow this stuff as closely as many seem to but I do wonder where in the heck some of the comparisons come from. I did think the Finke/Braun comps were reasonable with Braun being slightly more athletic (a plus if true).
Beside being skinny white tall guys that can space the floor, I see no other similarities in their game. Braun is a defensive focused player, pretty good shot blocker, that tries to dunk everything. Does that sound like Finke at all?

That was offer was a courtesy to the Fire clan. Pearson was a borderline high-major player, and that was before he missed most of the HS season with a weird eye injury. The kid has good size and some quickness, but doesn't get off the floor very well and doesn't have an especially high skill-level.

I hope to god that we aren't slow playing him. Who else is even out there that we would consider slow playing someone?!

Would it be fair to compare Parker Braun to Mike Davis or Bill Cole in terms of his size and skills? Both were forwards and could shoot from the 3.

Mike Davis was 0-1 from 3 over ~3700 mins played at Illinois. Very different player from Cole. Cole had some athleticism, I can’t remember how well he played defense or attacked the rim.

Nope, and it doesn't sound like Cole, either.

Will never forget when we were playing Kris Dunn's providence team. Someone (JCL? maybe) shots a 3 with a few seconds left, Finke times the putback dunk perfectly, still misses it. Such a disappointing finish.

We need guys who can finish above the rim. If Braun can, I'm all in.

But if he were uncommitted right now, would we look at him? I'm not saying I think he could be a difference maker here, or that this is his level, but with his size and our desperation, would that be a guy we'd consider?
