He will do well...but he is a tier 2 pick up for a blue blood. Ala Charles Matthews.

It would be a mistake for EJ to go to a blue blood. He needs to go to a place where in year one he gets minutes. By year two he is starting and year three is a key player. It is probably best for EJ to sign in the spring. Allows him to know which players will be on the team and how well the team did.

EJ is not planning on being in college for three years.

Kahill Whitney is averaging 22 pts and 7 rebounds
EJ 13.7 pts and 5.5 rebounds
Okoro 13.7 and 10 rebounds
Adam Miller 14.5 pts

EJ's ranking doesn't shout one and done. He projects to be wing at the next level. Needs to make that transition from PF to wing. Ayo as a 6-4 PG has a clearer path to the NBA IMHO. There is the G league and international ball as well. But EJ looks like he needs 3 years of college development. His current ranking is close to Malcolm Hill.

Whitney is definitely the better player, at least imo. And while I don’t think EJ is a one and done by any means, I’m simply saying he isn’t planning on being in college for three years. I think most highly touted recruited, say top 75 or higher, think that two years in college is the most they will need to prove they are nba ready.

illinitiger - EJ’s athleticism is well above Brunson at this stage, I don’t think anybody thought Brunson would be a one and done even though he was a 5 star.

This is the opposite from the reports I have heard. Yes he was phenomenal during the HS year. But he has not tore up AAU. In fact, some Okoro kid on his own team has been out playing him. Most games, he is just a dude on the court. Not the spotlight. There is a reason why his rankings dropped.

His ranking dropped?

I don't know if that is what top 75 players expect. If they do, they definitely could use more time in college for education, because their powers of observation and math skills are very poor.

If you look at the last 10 years of RSCI history and compare to the first round draft picks, you will find that only 13 - 20 of the top 100 are picked in the first round within the first 2 years removed from high school. Top ten RSCI has about a 70% chance of being a first round draft pick within 2 years, 11 -20 about 50%, 21-30 25%, pretty random after top 30.

Doesn't make much sense to leave without getting a guaranteed contract, unless you have no interest in an education.

Didn’t Underwood himself use the “2-year Plan” sales pitch to get Tevian to Illinois? It's not like these kids just come up with plans on their own. Even big time college coaches play into it to make them feel good. Reality can come later, apparently.

Sure. You lay out the best case scenario in a development plan.

Expecting it to happen, defies reality.

Werner show, hour 1 had Brian Snow 247 on friday talking about EJ & ranking...Brian said there was some disagreement on EJ, but sounded like most of it was because he was a tweener. He was also clear it wasn't his opinion, he would have had him higher.

I think blue blood is unlikely, but I don't feel good about our chances either at this point.

Whitney alone gets us back to the sweet sixteen.

Not sure this is all true, but he would go great with all the young talent we have. True, a quality big enhances every thing , this group needs a rim protection and rebounding, with a bit of defense. We get that, we are off to the races. Our guard play will shine next year, and with some timely perimeter shooting put backs will only be a plus.
EJ recruitment is going to be tenuous at best. Don't care what any optimistic view you take, we have 2strikes against us, Smith and Okoro, and both have moved on. His AAU play brought his ranking down a bit, but still a solid player. Keep our irons in the fire , but his recruitment commit will be difficult. Matter of time spent v. Gain . Whitney, then Kofi, with most effort on Whitney. May have 3 schollies to use, think being selective would be a better option, see who what's to play for us, instead of bringing in bodies that might.

Really dont think Smith and Okoro are strikes against us at all, just that they can't actively benefit us like they would have if they were here. Liddell is going to be a solid 4 year college player and would be a huge get for us mostly due to BU's style of play and how hard he brings it. Whitney and Kofi are 2 incredible options but we'll have to see how that goes for us.

In my mind you type your whole post out. Then roll a giant bag of dice. Add up the total and insert that many comma's. Please tell me this is what you do!

I think there is some confusion, since 247sports publishes two national rankings. The newly released 247sports rating has E.J. Liddell ranked 83rd. I think that might be actually be a little higher than previously.

The 247sports composite rating has Liddell quite a bit higher, at 62nd.
