How would he stack up to ed morrow?
What do you mean? Morrow is more of an undersized 4 where Shannon is a 2/3.
Not real excited about Braun, makes sense offer, and I hope I end up being wrong, just not expecting much.
You shouldn’t expect much year one nor should we from any big who isn’t a top 30-40 player. Give him 2 Fletcher summers and then watch.
Arizona gave it's 13th schollie to a walk-on for 2018, they seem to be out of scholarship for next year, might be the reason for visit being cancelled. Miller gave it May 21. Twitter post don't have link. Beardownwildcats.com is site not really active.;):illinois:

Braun may not be a 5 * but he would fit nicely, wanting to be here and a winner. All good.

Even if Parker did visit Nebraska, I can't imagine him choosing them over us. Yes, I know, bias and they had a much more successful season, but we clearly have to have impressed him more than they have. BU seems very good at getting most of the pieces he wants.

Do we clearly have a brighter future than Nebraska? I hope so but sadly at this point, it is an honest question.

The two advantages we have are a better chance of Underwood being here Braun's whole career (Nebraska's new AD has an itchy trigger finger on Miles) and the fact that at the end of the day Nebraska is a football school first second and third (and I suspect Scott Frost will make that doubly true pretty shortly).

But they have immaculate facilities and don't have an inexorable decline narrative that hangs over the campus like one of the spaceships from Independence Day. And are much closer to home for Braun.

I understand the outcome being doubtful, but geez some of you seem to think we have nothing to draw a recruit. Coaches can sell the future, and let's face it, as good a prospect as he is for the future, he seems to be running out of landing places. Again, I think BU has done a good, maybe not great yet, job of bringing in some nice pieces. I apologize for my positive attitude. ;)

Not necessarily brighter future, but we do have greater potential.

We have plenty to attract recruits. But other major conference programs also have selling points too. And at this point probably a majority of them are more appealing in a vacuum than we are.

Still, recruitments don't occur in a vacuum. Every kid is different.

Lincoln is definitely the coolest campus in Nebraska.

Look, I am not sure what Illinois has to sell as opposed to other schools. Who can really figure out recruiting? But it isn't like Illinois can just reach out and grab anyone they want and assume we are "better" than other schools or that a school like Nebraska couldn't possibly out-recruit us because they are somehow beneath us. Only the big boys can do that and let's face it- Illinois is not considered one of the big boys anymore. We still get recruits that choose Illinois because they want to come to Illinois but it is a slap to see that even guys that pick Illinois think of it as second tier sometimes. The article on Griffin in the N-G the other day was all about how he got ignored by the really good basketball programs for too long so he was going to show them what they were missing out on and came to Illinois to prove it. That's great for us but I read the whole thing and felt a little crestfallen in the acceptance and acknowledgement that Illinois wasn't necessarily the first choice but the other schools didn't show the proper interest and respect. I'd like to see guys coming here because they are proud to be here and love it here- not because they didn't get the proper attention from other schools.

....and Self watched Andre Iguodala a couple of times and passed. I'm not saying there is any similarity in players. But apparently when some see players at a specific time, their evaluations are better, or worse. Some prospects rise, some fall.

But ultimately Self chased him hard. I think him and Mcbride weren't going to play together.

Morrow appeared to be one dimensional to me when I saw him play in Dallas before his senior year whereas Shannon has an inside out game that brings more to the table. They both had high motors though from what I saw.

There were also different dynamics in that recruitment. People forget that McBride, Randle, and Livingston were all extremely close friends and wanted to play together. Self actively pursued that trio and recruited all of them hard. Both McBride and Randle committed, and obviously Self left, so the year after Livingston was never going to play for Weber.

Richard McBride, Brian Randle, and Shaun Livingston all played together with Ft. Sooy No Limit for Verdell Jones with whom Self had developed extremely close ties. Actually later Illinois self-reported a violation in which Self had encouraged a booster to make a donation to Ft. Sooy No Limit and Verdell Jones.

McBride and Iguodala were indeed never going to play together, and losing on McBride also meant not a good shot at Randle/Livingston.

Had not heard this story. Thanks for sharing.

I follow Lanphier closely. I graduated from there in 1997. Go To city tourney each year. I saw Bill self two consecutive city tournaments. he was there to watch mcBride as a Soph and Jr. Iguodala didn’t break out in hs till his senior year. But he’s a stand up dude in the Springfield community. Giving back with time and money. My point is that by the time AI broke out, UI was too late.

I agree with everything you said here. I guess my point is that it's not Okoro we're talking about here, it's a guy ranked pretty low or not at all. I believe, in a short time, the kind of players you are referring to will come to UofI.

Can anyone explain how we have subpar facilities even with the SFC renovations. I don't really keep up with other B1G school's facilities.

In 2013 the Orange Krush visited Nebraska for our invasion. We pretended to be State Farm interns and got a tour of their entire facilities for all athletes. Basketball players get to use the same stuff Football uses. Football has a LOT of stuff. They showed us the recruitment video they show prospective athletes and a lot of my friends (who are all super fans of Illinois) were 95%/5% joking/serious about transferring to Nebraska because we were all so blown away by their facilities. Way ahead of us.

Of course at the game their student section invited us down to sit with them because only like 10 people showed up. They don't seem to have that problem anymore...but oh man. The DIA rep there wouldn't let us down there. Probably thought once we revealed we were 150 Illinois students mixed among the >30 Nebraska students, it wouldn't end well.
