What is the deal with Verge? Is everyone afraid of his grades and won't qualify? skill set? personality? something else?

I know nothing about him, which is why I am asking.

The (unofficial) concern for Verge has always been grades.

Did he ever specify it was a 2017? Would be pretty easy to check in Tyger Campbell if they were visiting Epperson.

There's no way recruiting used to be this gut-wrenching and difficult.

Social media has made it worse but many of our current Illini legends came with much angst before and after they arrived on campus. What would Illinois be if stars like Kendall Gill, Frank Williams, and Dee Brown left after there sophomore year? It almost happened.

Lowell Hamilton, Marcus Liberty, Deon Thomas all were not easy commitments and highly pursued by major power programs.

Deron Williams liked Illinois but it became a clearer decision when spots at UNC, Maryland, Tennesse, and GT got filled.

There were also others that selected Illinois but had to go the JC route and then re-recruited.

I do not think it was in gest by the look on his face when he said it and everyone else laughing and he didn't even smile. He was very serious about it when he said it.

I disagree. I think the kid has perfect comedic timing.

And no dad on the side trying to hog the spotlight, a la Cliffmas. Nice. Glad this part is over, and look forward to seeing him play for the Illini. Welcome, and welcome.

Yes. Recruiting has always been like this for the big fish, but before social media and increased media coverage only coaches had to go through the agony. I read an article once that the most gut-wrenching recruitment was Wilt Chamberlain (as one would guess). Kid from Philly who ended up at Kansas (and back then he'd probably never seen a Kansas game in his life) and Indiana was expecting him to show up at admissions when they got a phone call from a reporter telling them Wilt was in Lawrence signing up for classes. There had been about 5 other schools who thought they had him. Can you imagine thinking you had Wilt in the bag and then losing him at the very last second?

And I'm all for Verge. He may have to sit for a year but I love that kid's game. Someone said they hadn't seen him play for 2 years. It took a couple of sessions of AAU ball this spring for him to shake the rust off of not playing since January, but he was dynamite for Meanstreets in June and July and I'm guessing he'll have a super senior year at Thornton. Haven't read MOB's article about him yet but I know both he and Joe Hoops raved about him constantly his sophomore year.

Why do I think Jeremiah career will be so much better than Cliff's at Kansas. Thanks Cliff, our staff can now use you as an example of where not to go.

Nationally there have been some good ones. How about Sampson committing to Kentucky and then choosing Virginia after Sam Bowie committed to Kentucky as well. He announced his decision on signing day as "I'm going to Kent-Virginia". How about Olujuwon flying to New York to meet with St Johns from Africa and then St John's fails to link up with him. He then ask a Nigerian baggage handler which place has weather like Nigeria and the guy says Houston.

I'm holding it right now. It is the best phone I've ever seen in my life, and I'm a huge tech guy. Check out the Bear Motion case, I have it in black and it is perfect. I have the rugged armor too but I like slim design.

Thanks.

Gosh, I really, REALLY like Groce. I just hope he manages to keep this year's team winning and the program moving forward so that I can really, REALLY like his program.
