It could have been the theological angle. GCU is a small Christian college and maybe he just felt his calling. Not out of the question.

Yeah that is the only explanation I could come up with too. I can’t think of anything else that would cause him to resort to that.

Maybe since 60,000 of their total 75,000 students are online students, Tim can be a junior academically by the time he gets on campus.

Haha. Still in love with rankings, eh?

Anyway, this guy is a 6’8” wing and looks like he could provide solid shooting. As far as high school goes, he’s playing against top competition regularly and has a teammate that just committed to Calipari. There aren’t a ton of videos out there on him, but I found a few decent ones.

I think his passing and ball handling are his 2 best assets. Get him and Flo and call it a class, and move onto 19

Always thought Tim Finke plus a 5th year big would round out the class with Ayo. Who to look at next? Need a shooter

If we need a shooter why would Finke be the guy we wanted? Honestly, if he wasn't related to Mike or from Champaign would anyone even care anymore? I'm sure hope he will turn it around and have a solid college career but based on his play there is nothing there to think he is someone we should be upset we missed.

He is the type of player we got stuck with year in year out for the last 10 years- guys that started high and dropped in the rankings every year. We always told ourselves that it was just a blip but I can't think of any of them who turned out as we hoped.

We need scorers way more then shooters. Finke liked staying outside just like JCL. We need guys who will attack the basket

He could definitely shoot the ball, and is quite athletic. He may have been trending down, however I honestly think Underwood's coaching would have helped him gain his potential. A Bill Cole type player, and thats not an insult.

According to this he shot 28% from 3 and 40% overall for EYBL, not exactly someone who you would label as your shooter. We can all say he had a bad summer but let's be honest, we want guys who are trending up, not ones trending down.

I get why some people wanted him, but it's all on faith at this point that he will turn it around. Only way I would take him is if he waited until spring and blew it up over the HS season.

Do we have any of those left? I know its a long way till 2018 recruiting is over, but I see Ayo, Tejon, Smith as the scorers. Need a consistent 3pt shot on the team.

We are going to score more points from the FT line then we do the 3 point line this year. We have guys who can shoot the 3 well enough, but why shoot that shot when you can just drive and get fouled, or drive and dish to Black or who ever for an open 10 footer.

Because they are worth 1 more point

He didn't fit BU offense. His growth plates are closed. He cannot balance a ladder. I think I just covered everything with Tim Finke. Oh, he does not want to run on a treadmill.

I heard Underwood gave him an ultimatum, go man bun or no scholarship. Alas, here we are.

+1. Maybe now we can move on from Tim being good enough to be an Illini. Best of luck to him in the future, but if he would have come here and under-performed??? I would have hated to see how many of his current "supporters" would be eating him alive in the future. Smart choice to go elsewhere and establish himself separate from his brother. At least he will get to see his future team in live action at the Hall in December. :thumb:

Finke would have to sit entire year if he transferred to a private without changing residence. If he moved, he would have to sit out at private or public until 2nd semester.
I don’t believe that Coach Finke would have ever cut a player to benefit his son. He had to have solid reasoning on why the player should not make the team. I know of no coach that would do that without good reason. Most likely there are other issues that he cannot divulge. I am sure the AD is aware of these reasons and supports him otherwise it would never have gotten to the school board level.
To encourage students to skip school in protest has to be the most asinine thing I have seen from a protest. What will this accomplish? Whatever adults that are supporting this protest should be embarassed. To do anything that interferes with a students education and their chance at a better life is criminal!

I honestly feel bad for Finke here. GCU is a giant sham.

Yea maybe so, might want to buy stock though....more than doubled in past year, plus this year first year eligible for conference tourney $$ or March Madness $$$.

Be shocked if it doesn't double again in next year...they are expected to make the tourney by some, and we are not....it will be no cakewalk win by us.

Finke could have ended up at much worse, Arizona I hear is a popular choice for lifestyle moves (at parents age) by many.:chief:

According to RBachhuber, the Lord of the Scholarship Grid, Tim Finke received an offer from John Groce, but it was "doubtful" that Coach Underwood and his staff were pursuing him. It's almost a sure thing that Illinois may have stayed in touch because of his brother but was not showing him a "committable" scholarship offer. If that is the case, why would it be considered a "miss" that Tim Finke took a "committable" offer from another school?

He may not have been a perfect fit for BU's offense, and maybe BU didn't want him, but I sure was hoping he'd be around in the spring as an option. Even the Duke's take guys like Alex O'Connell (and play them). Would have been nice to have him as an option.

Has he signed a letter of intent, do we know?

Finke was obviously a plan B/C for Illini and Vanderbilt. Illini signed Ayo and are looking for a shooter. Vanderbilt just got a verbal from Garland and lead for Langford.

Makes sense Finke would want to regroup and solicit some offers for a spring signing.

Not sure why he chose GCU, though. Can’t make sense of that one. He isn’t projecting towards a professional basketball career, and his degree may or may not be worth much depending on who’s reviewing his resume. I just don’t see how that decision is in his best interests. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe it’s just a “temporary” commitment to demonstrate his dad didn’t boot that player for his benefit?

Personally, I’ll be shocked if he ends up at GCU.
