Finke should've gone Ivy League... Herro should've stuck with Wisconsin... Why aren't white kids going to the proper schools!!?

Pretty disrespectful, yeah. Wisconsin will always have their FF win over Kentucky to hold over their heads, but this will sting for a while.

All of Herro's quotes frankly make him sound like a real bag. Basically has determined that he's too good for Wisconsin.

I hope he rides pine. I have no special hate for Wisconsin and don't want bad things to happen to them like this.

Other B1G programs, however...

Couldn't agree more. I know he's a kid, but to show that kind of disrespect to your state school? I hope someone is helping him understand how that he needs to consider his words before speaking...not that it's a point of emphasis in the present climate though. :D

I've been a lousy reader lately, so apologies if somebody beat me to it, but our newest recruits are Flo & Mo. That's just a big old wiffle ball for Princess Bride fans. "Anybody want a peanut?" :)

A 6'10" guy that can shoot? He'd play.

Mike Finke would not play on any of those teams. Those teams have 6’10” guys that shoot and run and jump and rebound. He’s a fine player but has huge holes in his game. Gonna be a long year but I’m optimistic about the direction of the program in general.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but why should any kid have to show more respect or consider going to a college based on where his or her parents chose to take up residence. He owes the University of Wisconsin nothing. Wisconsin fans chose to show him little respect when he opened up his recruitment. His comments now help reflect that.

I think you have a bit of an inflated sense of those teams. Taking for instance Kentucky and Kansas, the 5 players 6'10" or taller on their rosters combined, have a total of 0 3pt attempts so far this season. You may scream small sample size, but looking back at last season shows pretty much the same thing.

Bill Cole was 6'9" and shot about as well as Finke.:D

I find myself guilty of hyperbole. I stand by the assertion that Finke sees no meaningful time on any those teams.

I think Finke would get time on those teams. Maybe not a lot, but all teams need role players and a 6'10" player that can shoot can always find some PT.

Gerry Colangelo University? Is he recruiting against his alma mater?

All signs point to no....

Seriously does anyone think BU was doing more than keeping tabs on young Finke? He almost certainly wasn't an active target at this point. Unfortunate based on the early promise TF showed but seems to be the case with most of the high majors that were interested in him previously.

The bottom line is it doesn't matter now does it? Finke is on our team, has been a solid player for us and I, for one, am glad he is here. Guy's just starting his junior year.

(Just quoting you for context, not talking to just you)

1. Saying someone isn't that good doesn't mean someone has a "vendetta" against an entire family.

2. I personally don't think having 5 Mike Finke caliber players on our team every year will lead to sustained deep NCAA tournament runs and where we all dream of being.

3. That being said he is only a Jr. (feels like he has been here forever) and maybe he will surprise us.

When he decided to reopen his recruitment he said he’ll “always call Wisconsin home”. Could be a pretty uncomfortable home with the kind of disrespect he has shown.

I think he might surprise some people this year with this new intensity that he’s bringing. I like it, and am very glad he’s on our team. As for his younger brother, I think it’s a great place for him right now. He has a chance to get a lot of PT, regain his confidence, and maybe through online courses graduate in two years. He’d then have two years of eligibility left to work on his masters while playing somewhere else (potentially) at a higher level.

When Tim Finke left the Illinois Irish he headed on a one way ticket down. He left a program where he was the main man with a good defensive minded coach who teaches hustle. Then he went to the Eagles and started to suck because no one outside of his family was actively making him better. Low and behold he signs with Meanstreets, thinking he can have more glory than the Eagles... well that also was a bad idea. Had he stayed with the Irish, he would have been the focal point for the entirety of his AAU career and developed other parts of his defense. I watched him closely throughout the years and this is a case of getting ahead of yourself and acting like you have already arrived when you haven't. Sad outcome

Seems to me recruits that have been on our radar, that have chosen to switch AAU basketball teams, don't end up being on our roster. Had to throw that out there. ;):illinois:

Or he was challenging himself to play with and against better competition. Didn't work out, but good for him trying to test himself. Who knows how much the injuries affected him.
