MILLER HAS NEXT IN CHICAGO

Things have been somewhat down in Illinois and Chicago when it comes to big time talent, combo guard of Morgan Park looks like he could be next.

Miller is actually from Peoria and just moved up to Chicago but he's making his presence felt. During the summer I was intrigued by his size, ability to play on or off the ball and his overall feel. Watching him in a high school setting I was more struck by his dangerous jump shooting and how totally unfazed he was by playing on a big stage.

As I look at Chicago prospects in the classes of 2019 and 2020, Miller currently looks like the one with the most potential to set off a big time recruitment and at this time he's the only Chicago based prospect to rank in the national top 50 of either class. He pretty much already has with early offers from Illinois, Kansas, UIC, Bradley, Wake Forest, Memphis and Oklahoma State.

Four-star Bryan Penn-Johnson updates his status

Bryan Penn-Johnson has kept his recruitment close to vest, but what we do know is that three programs have hosted him for an official visit. In a recent conversation with Rivals.com, Penn-Johnson recapped his visits, discussed another school in the mix, why he decided to wait until the late period to sign and his timetable for a decision.

“I just wanted to make sure I weighed all my options and I picked the best school for me. If it takes a little more time, then that is fine for me,” he said before discussing DePaul, Washington and UCLA. “The three schools that I went on visits to are still involved. LSU is still kind of involved, too.”

Longer this guy stays unsigned, the more it makes you wonder. He would definitely fill a void we have.

Does anyone know the background on this kid and how he ended up in Champaign? I've Googled and failed to find the answer.

Anyone?

Upvote.

I'm a Central alum, which makes this especially interesting. In my experience the kids with interesting backgrounds were there because their parents worked at U of I. Hoping that's the case here as well.

Ayo Dosunmu led Morgan Park with 20 points and six boards (in 3Q) also had the game-winning steal. Cam Burrell had 19 points and 14 rebounds. Kenyon Duling added 15, was huge when Dosunmu was out. Best game I’ve seen so far this season.

Welcome to CPS basketball, where we don't know when or where a game will be played until about 24 hours prior (if that).

Questions:

1. Does the staff want to sign further players for 18 or save openings for Okoro, Liddell, and Whitney?

2. It has been frequently mentioned how attractive BU's style is for guards. Is it also true for centers or is it a problem to attract big men?

I think the pitch is pretty attractive to bigs too. Run and get bunch of dunks or kick out 3s. Be able to dribble/pass/shoot like a guard even if you’re not. (Bigs secretly want to be guards)

Pressure out on defense so you can get said dunks or get a bunch of blocks on the backside cleaning up perimeter defensive mistakes, then run and get a bunch of dunks.

I'm sensing a theme here... :D

The staff wants additional '18 guys. They've offered guys like Luis Rodriguez, Tevian Jones, Maurice Calloo (a couple others?) since missing out on targets this fall.

There are currently 5 spots open for '19, so you can take two more players in '18 (which I would guess they'll do) and still add the three targets you mention in '19.

As for the attractiveness to bigs, it depends on the big. This system isn't for back-to-the-basket traditional bigs (think Isaac Haas), but it's great for guys with some face-up game and ability to run the floor.
