Not sure what your basis for saying we have little chance with him is, since you never said, but I'd say you're completely wrong. He'd get over 20 minutes, probably more like 25 minutes a game and be an important piece for us with a young and talented group of guards. Our grad programs are every bit as good or better, depending upon the major, than the schools you listed and we just inked back-to-back the best players in the state, one of whom is rated in the 20s nationwide and the other was a late comer with UK, MSU, Duke and others recruiting him. Getting this kid wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I was going to pose a question regarding this issue. I am going to assume ( dangerous I know) a kid who graduates early from Dartmouth probably has his non- basketball future in mind when choosing his next school.

Wondering how we stack up in that department.

2 minutes into Thamba's clip: athletic big, rim protector, very large upside. Yes, please!

Yea would gladly take him. Wouldn't expect much for a year or two in terms of production from him but it would go a long ways to adding depth to our front court once Black and Finke graduate.

Re: Bailey Dee

What if the breakup was more mutual than publicly stated? Food for thought.

Back in the day, my youngest brother, by 4 years, came down for a football game with my cousin (4 years my elder). When they sat down to catch their breath, my brother, a senior and 3 year player for his high school, told me he was cut from the basketball team. I was speechless. I don't remember what the reason was, but I do remember that the team was really senior-heavy that year. I just rationalized that the coach wanted, needed, to get some underclassmen on the team for development purposes. But then I also remember that the there were no underclassmen that were better than my brother. They called him Jerry West for gosh sakes!

How uncomfortable would that be if he gets on the team now? The coach is in a lose/lose situation at the point. If they uphold the decision, he's a racist and if they over turn the decision he's a racist who is going to have to walk on eggshells regarding how he's coached. If he screams, it will be perceived that he's being too hard on him and if he lays off, he'll be perceived as showing special treatment.

Taking kids out of school....yeah, that makes a ton of sense. Idiots.

Well, I would think if the school overturns it, they have to fire the coach. They are saying "you did something wrong" if they let this kid be on the team. By all public accounts, it seems like there was no reason to cut the kid.

I'll be interested to see how this plays out.

Think firing the coach might be a little extreme. If they feel like he made a mistake you can address it other ways imo.

That doesn't mean both sides are going to be okay with it. If they side with the kid and force him onto the team, I bet Finke Sr does not coach the team this year.

Would Finke resign? Might put Tim in an awkward position, but at the same time admin would be totally undermining the coach IF they forced a player back on the team.

What a mess. Hard to believe Finke has a dozen or so other players better than a 2 year starter that he should be cut. Something is missing to this story.

Yeah this all seems odd. But in the interest of fairness, you have to consider that Finke isn't in a position where he can come out and give an explanation. He basically has to stay silent. The other side can talk.

I would think he'd have to resign if they force a player on him. It would be very awkward to coach that player afterwards. The next battle would be whether he was getting playing time and how much and whether he's being treated fairly as a team member. And if Coach Finke has to resign, I would think Tim would be in a weird spot after that. Maybe either way. And Tim doesn't need any more obstacles in his way to regain stature this year. What a mess...

Not to mention that his spot has already been filled. Who gets to pick the kid that has to get kicked off to let Dee back on?!?

Big can of worms here. Everyone loses most likely.

Doesn't sound like the father of a kid that wanted to quit the team:

"Basketball has always been his dream," the father said. "He has been playing since his sophomore year and started. Then, all of a sudden, he was off the team completely. He can't be a benchwarmer or anything his senior year. This is ludicrous."

From what I read in that article, they're looking at the tryout process to see what happened that he could be cut. If Central works anything like the public schools in Chicagoland, any changes to tryouts won't happen until next season.

If they press to put him back on the team, they're hamstringing their coach. If his record isn't what they want, they won't care since they'll likely want him out next year; if it is what they want, they won't force the kid on him. What the Board does will be telling regarding Finke, Sr. position with Central.

If Bailey plays varsity ball this year, one of the underclassmen on varsity will be moved to JV more likely than not. I don't know the specifics of the situation, but that's how it would likely play out at the school I work at and others in our conference.
