I think those offers will eventually be there, but maybe not with immediate PT.

Hopefully, we’d be selling the 2019 bigs on playing with a senior Tejon (who won’t be throwing ally oops with 40 seconds and the lead) juniors Mark Smith (who will have made the college game adjustments) and Trent Frazier (who will continue to improve) as well as a sophomore 5* Ayo, with nobody really in his way to step in and make an immediate impact. Not that hard to imagine a kid from Illinois (or anywhere for that matter) wanting to be part of that crew.

Having the #1 recruit and likely #1 or #2 draft pick makes recruiting A LOT easier. And he is not gonna have that every year. Plus, when he starts underperforming on the court, as he has at most places he has coached, and when Underwood starts winning, we might be coming out ahead in a lot of these recruiting battles.

And that's not saying we won't win them right now.

Yep I agree. Martin had a ton of talent at Cal and couldn't get them to the tournament.

I'd have to agree. If I have to bet on who can sell a kid, I'd take Cuonzo 9 out of 10 times against Underwood. Hopefully Liddell is the exception, but I don't feel too good about it.

Also if we don't have a Big Man on board, it's very unlikely we get Liddell. He will not want to take the risk of having to play C. Whether it's Flo in '18 or Okoro next year (better yet both), it's vital that we can tell Liddell he won't be stuck at C.

To make you feel better, a well respected poster on another board is saying Okoro to UI by March.:thumb:

Totally agree. Martin 9 years at Division I schools and only two NCAA bids. As opposed to what our coach has done wherever he's been.

Who has cuonzo not gotten to the nba that was “supposed to” because of his lack of coaching, teaching, development, etc. ?

I think the key for Underwood will be the ability to develop the bigs we get. It will be hard to get 5 or possibly 4 star bigs just because there are not a lot of them and every one needs size. Finding 3 star players that have the potential to develop and than coaching them up is the key right now. Finding freshman bigs who can immediately play major minutes is one of the toughest things to do in college basketball.

Only big name that I can think of is Ivan Rabb. 5 Star guy who played well in college and has been sitting in the "G-League" since entering the league. He did coach Josh Richardson at Tennessee. 3 Star guy who is a solid player for the Heat.

Even though he had little to do with actually getting them to the NBA (i.e. skill development, etc), Cuonzo can point to a longer list of past players in the NBA than BU, and those optics matter.

I looked at how many players that are in the NBA that were coached by Cuonzo and the list was shorter than I expected. That list will get longer while he is at Mizzou.

I didn't think that the point was the CM actually devalued players and they missed out on the league. I thought the point was that they had far less success in college than a team of their talent should have.

As has been said on here many times before, if you have the talent to play in the league, the league will find you.

But if you play your 1 or 2 or 3 years for CM before moving on, will you enjoy the experience? Track record is not encouraging.

Some would consider Florida a blue-blood.

I think Liddell is going to let this process play out. He's playing with a chip on his shoulder because he knows how underrated he is nationally. When it's all said and done, IL and MO will have been on him the longest, but he's going to have to turn down some big offers to play for either.
