Once again, Loren Tate was at the forefront of this game-changing news. If Tate speaks, we need to listen. He doesn't have the number of insiders that he once had, but he's still connected to some reliable sources.

Thanks Loren!

Thing about Loren is he doesn't care what is thought of him for saying things, he isn't trying to sell papers or a web sight, He just says what he hears and thinks

I've seen this position taken up by a few people. Is it predicated on the idea that going after both Ayo and THT was "greedy?"

EDIT: by the way, I throw my vote in for naming today "THTursday."

Love too read armchair quarterbacking of CPL recruiting by message board posters.

If Nick Irvin told BU that he had to choose between THT and Ayo, which one of the tweets from an insider suggests that would be a difficult bind for BU for sure. It's an interesting dilemma, BU essentially had two choices at that point:
1) He can take the high road and let THT commit, earn some morality points for not letting an AAU coach dictate his recruiting. He could try to smooth it over with Irvin but risk losing Ayo and all future recruits from MIF
2) He can tell THT he can't come here - burning bridges with Simeon, but potentially earning some loyalty points from Irvin

BU obviously took option 1) which I'm OK with. Having high morality and not letting AAU coaches dictate recruiting is a bit naive. BU was in a tough spot and he chose the path that will likely lead to more on court success.

Would someone in the know tell me what I've missed since 11 pm yesterday. I can't absorb the 25 additional pages of information. I thought all was looking well....

The most Illiniish thing that can happen now is , THT comes out in an Illini #25 jersey and says he is committing to the Illini and then we lose both and our coach gets the FBI visit , LOL as the Illini world turns this is a joke not meant to be taken seriously

It's predicated on the fact that it's possible (who knows) that MIF laid it on the table that we either all in with him or his guys will find another place to play. Black and White.

To your point, we should have probably laid off THT if MIF was so passionate about this particular scenario. So, greedy is the wrong word. Perhaps naive is a better one

I think the thing to remember is that as much as it hurts today to lose THT, this move will pay dividends in the future...hate to say it but you have to play the game with Chicago

Well, something definitely happened and it wasn't good for us

I was on the "nothing to see here" wagon yesterday with all of the drama. I was irritated with all of the innuendo. I just didn't believe any of it could have legs.

Well, something definitely happened and it wasn't good for us.

This has been the case for Illinois Basketball for as long as I can remember. To end up losing a top recruit, especially this way is disheartening. Yet Mizoo, a program thats been in the dumps for years now, hires a Coach and everything turns to gold. Unbelievable.

Reading all of this makes me a little ill, however, I remembered how early in Weber's tenure, there was a kid waiting for his offer and he never got it. A big from GA maybe? He was waiting on signing day, never told it wasn't coming (allegedly). That was worse. So, to my knowledge, this is the second worse on how it was handled in my recruiting memory. Once again, if the either or was discussed upfront, I think Ayo is the right choice. Pulling the scholarship on the announcement day, no good, obviously.

Everyone will remember this if we lose

we won "the game" but depending on facts, may have lost a ton of respect among many.

Future winning programs and current blue bloods dont let AAU coaches toy with them....period...dot.

Oh yea, Underwood just nailed both these recruitments. Give me a break. This is a disaster. Who knows what the collateral damage of this will end up being.

Well, anyone who has been a member of loyalty for a while knows that you will definitely come out of nowhere with more posts if there are any future issues due to this. Predictable

Deon Thomas Twitter account said:
THT will not be sporting the Orange and Blue. SAD. This could have been 04/05 power perimeter again. Come on man!

Simeon and Illini star understandably not taking it well.

Hope we did not trade one part of Chicago for another.

Got to trust in BU.

Deon's tweet is the definitive word.

He holds insights into Simeon HS, Illini basketball and Chicago Public League recruiting.

Summed up perfectly. If Adam Miller ends up at Illinois', mark this day down.

That show was this am, you need to listen to the Tay and Carp show with Piper and Werner on it and neither are in Chicago
Then it must have been a re-run of the a.m. show, because this was on 93.5 between 3:30 and 4 p.m.
I went there after and heard Tay and Carp talk about it.
All I can say, is I lose respect for Underwood if they indeed pull the schollie offer from THT because Ayo said he would walk or the Irvins would be upset. We will probably never know, but if it was Ayo, as much as I loved the fact we got him, you can't let kids start dictating who you take, and if it was the Irvins, you certainly can't let an AAU program dictate who you get. What little we know of Underwood, he seems to be a no-nonsense guy, so hard to really believe either was the case.

Current blue bloods probably not (though I wouldn't be surprised). I would bet "future winning programs" absolutely do.

Wait, I got it!

THT "commits" to Iowa St tonight. Ayo will then sign in the fall as has been said would happen. However, THT doesn't sign yet, saying that he wants to wait for the Spring period.

Fast forward a few months and all of a sudden THT says he is decommiting from Iowa St and ends up signing with the Illinois. Effectively taking the Irvin pull out of the equation.

What do I win and where do I pick up my prize?

Welcome to college basketball circa 2017

If you don't like it, enjoy being a bottom half Big Ten team for all of eternity.

A part of me is actually glad that the Illinois coaches are providing the proper incentives and making deals to land players. To me, it's a breath of fresh air.

Ayo is a great kid and a great talent. Part of recruiting is selling a player. Part of selling is providing him an environment which is conducive to his success and accommodating them.

If your not willing to accommodate them, they will not come, simple as that. Isn't that was recruiting is all about?

Ayo, is a great kid. Very humble, very well spoken, and handles himself maturely.

If what everyone thinks/is saying happened actually happened, the biggest issue here that I don't think anyone has hit on:

It's not that we lost THT because the Irvin's are arrogant and grudge-carrying, ego-maniacs.

What are future recruits, their parents, and their coaches going to think if it turns out that we literally rescinded an offer to a kid the day he was going to commit?

"Hey Coach Underwood, I love what you're saying, but how can we trust you to do right by our kid when you did what you did to THT?"

Sure. We're in a better position with Whitney and Miller. Those are two players. TWO. And it's not even a guarantee that they'll come here! But now, every single recruit and those close to him will know that Underwood and staff have done this to a recruit.

Unacceptable.

Seriously, I feel like most of this board needs to take refresher on the definitions of, and differences between, a fact and an opinion.

I really don't think this is a Simeon vs MIF vs UofI...

I see it as THT moved away from the MIF and now there is a divide there, and the MIF doesn't like it so they are making THT pay for it.
