BU said it himself. The only thing he can truly sell to recruits at this point is 'a dream'. Once we play a few games then it'll be a different story. Most people don't want dreams, they want a proven track record from a consistent program.

Wait, what? Did he walk onto campus and immediately commit????? yes, big-time ouch......

Visited them first?
Valtonen, a 6-foot-6 wing out of Helsinki (Finland) Basketball Academy, took an official visit to ASU last weekend. He picked the Sun Devils over Illinois, who he visited on Tuesday, before returning home to Finland.

I'm guessing recruits just aren't buying what Underwood and his staff are selling. Wow, whiff after whiff. Hopes this strikeout string ends soon.....
In this situation, I think it was probably the number of young guards already on our roster. Based on his quotes, that's where he wants to play, and it would have been tough sledding to get minutes here.

This place is gonna melt down if Ayo commits to Wake. A dumpster fire inside of a nuclear blast.

As it should, honestly. It's not the end of the world, but this has really been a crappy last couple weeks for the programs recruiting aspirations.

No doubt. Miss on Ayo, and we are talking Bruce Weber recruiting, circa 2005.
Except we don't have a national championship caliber team and nothing concrete to pitch to recruits... Other than that, it's exactly the same... :tsk:

Well, plenty of new coaches seem just fine selling dreams.

I went to school with Kevin, I was jealous he played with Bird, I think he had a great career in the NBA.

I got into fights with Horton and his little brother, Gamble was always nice and respectful.

Dang, if YOU got into fights with Ed Horton, you much have been one big dude yourself!!!! Horton was a HUGE SOB!!! Mean, and tough!!!

Hurley is selling a tire fire at a school that doesn’t even care about basketball.

That said, it’s pretty clear from my understanding that Valtonen doesn’t see a clear path to PT here at the position he sees himself playing.

It sucks to suck right now. If we miss on Ayo we will have legitimate concerns moving forward. Ayo has been the rare stud recruit from Chicago that's actually liked Illinois all along. In many respects, if we lose Ayo to Wake, it's because Underwood and staff couldn't put together any semblance of a decent class for Ayo to join. All of these misses make me wonder if Smith was more of an anomoly than what we should expect.

This post is littered with so many scary truths, it scares me.

Lots of answers coming soon though....

My thoughts too. What is going on here......
Yes something seems to be in the air here...I think rival coaches are quick to point to the situation at OSU. With that being said be prepared to be disappointed again with Ayo. Just don't see it now at this point....

Like it or not, right now Underwood is under a cloud because of the FBI investigation. If I'm a recruit the uncertainty of that situation might sway me elsewhere. Supposedly the FBI investiation played a part of Nolley's decision. That's what his coach said. Well, how many schools in his Final Four have a coach who has a direct connection to that investigation?

Combine that with the 'selling a dream i/o substance' and it's a hard go.

Back off the ledge folks. I really don't see the Elias situation effecting Ayo. Does he even know who Elias is? I sure didn't before two weeks ago.

I'm not saying we'll get Ayo, I have no idea. But come on people...

I doubt that Ayo is worried about who else is in his class. The class above him is a good class and there are a lot of good players, especially bigs in the class behind him. I'm sure he doesn't expect to be here for all 4 years, so I don't see that as a big stumbling block for him.

Just wondering---if VT was 2nd on Nolley's list, why hasn't he committed?? Waiting for bigger fish?
