Honestly, I think our class will be fine if we fill it out in spring after Underwood gets a chance to show his style here.

That said, we need one recruit before spring. Ayo. We need Ayo to sign early. After that it will get figured out.

We have only one recruit we have wanted. Hopefully he has decided we are the ones. None of the others matter, if you look at the big picture. We have 3 scholarships open for 2018. Losing your minds just to fill slots is not very intelligent.

I have long thought this, with the sole addition of THT to the equation. It has always been THT and Ayo I thought. I wanted Nolley and Valtonen too, but it's ok, I think these are the two that matter most. There will be plenty of other players to use the scholarships, hopefully Okoro and Liddell are two of them.

Okay, that made me laugh. In my defense, I do have a 12 year old's sense of humor.

This is by no means an excuse, but it takes a certain type of athlete to want to play for a Huggins/Martin/Underwood type coach.

I think there's something to this...maybe some guys are scared off by the treadmill. :)

Ayo and family back on campus. Sitting on the 50 yard line in leather chairs with his family and watching a hype video.

Staff really laying out the red carpet.

Would be hard to say no to all of this...:shield:

Why the 50 yard line instead of center court? Didn't want to mess up the floor?

I'm so tired of Illinois basketball being the "king of second place" in regards to recruits. Over and over and over. Please change this Ayo!!

The difference I've noticed from BU from last 2 coaching staff is that he will go after a certain level of talent and not just go for best talent in Illinois.

Can't Circus is in town. :D

Not sure if you are kidding or maybe referring to some other type of circus but wow, why didn't they take him to the circus? Every kids' dream. That would have sealed the commitment. (OK, I am kidding)

Oh, c'mon. Groce went after plenty of elite/quasi-elite players who weren't from Illinois. Just failed to land 'em.

Ayo plus anyone over 6'8 200 pounds would be a successful class. The wings we recruited and missed on have no chance to start ahead of Ayo/Smith/kn in the next 3 years so who cared about them.

Agree with this although Nolley at 6'7" (per his measurement here) would probably fit the bill depending on his wing span. This year we lacked depth with the bigs and needed depth even if it meant developing lower rated talent. If we can't get talent that is superior to present roster save the scholarship for a future opportunity.

Thought everyone knew, but i guess not, so my insider status input;

This is by no means an excuse, but it takes a certain type of athlete to want to play for a Huggins/Martin/Underwood type coach. Their style of play is predicated on an extreme level of intensity, conditioning, and considerable basketball IQ. It’s no wonder you don’t find a lot of the elite level (and often times more coddled) athletes signing up to play for these guys. Hell, most kids in general don’t want any part of working any harder than they have to.

Ultimately BU can be very successful here in the same talent mold as Huggins and Martin.

I thought about this before, I just hope this doesn't turn into our new "we didn't want them anyway". I think players like the 89 and 05 teams would have wanted this. I don't think some of our other teams would have appreciated the treadmill in the corner.
