For anyone who isn't exhausted with the drama, Werner layed out the issue on the radio this morning. Sounds as if it is presently unresolved. You can find the link to hour 1 of his 10/24 show on his twitter, sorry I don't know how to link that media from twitter to here.

To the posters who believe that the Ayo/THT situation is being blown out of proportion, give this a listen. Starts about 8 minutes in.

If all this falls apart, I will be beyond convinced that the Illini are cursed.

How about a quick recap for those of us at work?

There is friction, which has put Illini in an odd spot. Would think that winning, playing different positions, and being the top 2 players in Chicago would be a positive. But one side thinks the other doesn't have a winning attitude, is me first, and there is bad blood. Illinois thought it had smoothed things over, but that's not the case.

God, this would be a huge get and REALLY get some optimism around this program again ... we need to have the attitude that of COURSE an Illinois recruit would be an Illini. Misses under Groce or Weber or really anyone for that matter are totally irrelevant. Brad Underwood is a good, proven coach who has a program with tradition behind him, a large and rabid fan base and great facilities ... it should make absolutely zero sense why any instate recruit wouldn't want to be a part of that, and I can't wait for the day our fans are as big of homers as the folks on the Wake boards, quite frankly. :thumb:

Fear of the treadmill? :D

Just have to believe (hope) that BU and Chin make them understand that if someone comes in with a me first attitude and that shows up on the floor than they won't be playing. Hopefully it all works out and THT will be announcing Illinois on Thursday. If not we move on.

So Illinois has gone from zero crystal balls to 60% in two days. That is very positive. Like I mentioned previously Simeon has been good to Illinois like central Illinois has.

Like THT game and he is only 16 years old. Williamson the 3rd ranked player in the class is already 19. There is a lot of maturity both physically and as a person that will come in the next 3-4 years. Malcolm Hill was also a year younger than his peers and his biggest growth in his game probably occurred between his sophomore and junior year.

With THT, the Illinois 2018 BB recruiting class jumps to #32 nationally on 247's composite rankings in the current landscape. Their composite score of 48.02 would have only finished #49 in the country in 2017 after all commits were said and done. Just stating facts. This would still be a great class in my opinion.

Hypothetically if Tim Finke comes aboard, that vaults the class to a composite score of 59.67 and would put the class at #11 so far this year and #16 in last year's final rankings.

I am curious to know if anyone correlates recruiting class rankings with actual year end rankings for teams. For instance, final team recruiting rankings from 2014 compared with final team (end of season) rankings for 2016 (or some blend of years following). Would be interesting to know which coaches tend to underperform & which outperform etc.

It most certainly is the safe bet! We just need him to make it out of this visit without committing like he did with UCLA! We just need a chance to lay out the red carpet and have our two unified '18 recruits front & center to pull him on board! :thumb:

COMMITMENT PREVIEW: Talen Horton-Tucker discusses Iowa State, Xavier & Illinois with analysis on pending decision https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/four-star-horton-tucker-previews-thursday-s-commitment

THT said this in the rivals article:
“The visit there was great. Illinois is home and just being able to go in there and play with a group of guys that I know is big. That would be really good. Being able to get the program back and with Ayo Dosunmu, showing that they can get the best guys in the state. It would give Illinois a bigger push to get the younger guys from the state, too.”

Sure sounds like he'd be happy to play with Ayo. I'd infer from that his Mom would be happy, too. Ayo has already verbaled. That leaves Ayo's parents...

A class of Ayo + THT is a huge success. #32, #41, #19.......couldn't care less. Getting the two biggest studs in the state to go along with Mark Smith, Trent Frazier, and Damonte Williams the year before ensures that our backcourt is ridiculously loaded for the next handful of years to come.

Focus on frontcourt for 2019, and we've got something special.

Your cynicism is way off base. You don't have a clue.

Well, you are right, I don't have a clue, I have an opinion based on several other clues and opinions. Which is exactly what you, and everybody but a select few, have. But thanks for taking your shot.:illinois:

Edit:

In fact, I'm going to double down on my cynicism based on today's society being completely and totally obsessed with ridiculously overblown drama and social media. Especially with the current climate in MCBB, I 100% guarantee that whatever this stems from, whatever amount of truth to any of it, has been completely and obnoxiously blown out of proportion. Everything is. Every time.

Illinois 44%
Iowa State 33%
Michigan State 11%
Georgia Tech 11%
So for those of you who watch these, I'm most interested in if the Iowa State predictions have changed to Illinois. Have any of those come our way?

Very few.

And frankly, if any of this involves family members, I'd prefer we just keep this out of the public domain. Let the families sort this stuff out.

I sincerely hope that adults aren't throwing up road blocks and creating drama where no drama exists between the kids. But life has taught me otherwise.

Clearly, it sounds like THT is fine playing with Ayo, and I'd be willing to bet Ayo is fine playing with THT. Tough to ignore the drama that happened this summer with THT leaving the MIF, though.

Which one is me first/non-winning attitude?
