Exactly. This is a worst case scenario. Every kid across the country knows not to trust our offers now. Mac Irvin is a big fish in a small pond. We’re facing an uphill battle now.

This is the most epic recruiting failure in decades!!! Anyone that says otherwise is stupid. When the second best player in IL wants to come here you work it out. Doesn’t matter if #1 is committed or not.

THT was a shoe in and we bent the knee to a small time AAU coach who is trying to be a big deal. As soon as he gets a an offer he’ll be off to Missouri or any school that gives him a chance. There’s no Loyalty. We got played!

Yep...No matter how you spin it the staff looks like tools in this situation.

Man. A week ago BU was the greatest coach of all time and, who knew, an amazing recruiter.

Now he's the guy who lost a scrimmage to Indiana State and ruined recruiting for the beloved.

What will next Thursday bring???

Actual games can't get here fast enough.

So if you feel you need to place blame, go with the Irvins.

We/UI didn't LET anything happen. We were presented (it seems) with a choice. We made one. Either choice was going to cost us one player, and net us one player. I think under the circumstances, we made the correct choice.

I am much less sure of that than you are. Time will tell. Underwood and company better win quick or this will be the thing they are remembered for.

This isn’t an Ayo thing. Ayo is great. But we shouldn’t have pitched THT last weekend if we were going to rescind the offer. The staff needs to get their collective butts together from here on out. It’s clear THT had his heart set on ILL. I feel so bad, even just as an alum myself, that he got this experience pulled out from under him last minute.

It never should have got to this point. We should have cut ties weeks ago, if not immediately after Ayo committed.

This is not how you do good business in the long run.

To me it shows that we are pretty far down our list of recruits. They knew THT and Ayo were not going to play together awhile ago and we clearly went after several other guys at SF over THT As a result. Seems like they tried a Hail Mary after all the other recruits went elsewhere.

It's nuts to blame our staff and MIF, who played pivotal role in getting us the best recruit in years, for a player that is said to prioritize us for 2 DAYS in total of his recruiting process and did not announce us.

Our staff can talk nothing on recruit. All the news is leaked or even intentionally told either from THT camp or Simeon. How do you ever know the stories from their side is true?

Believing those BS is just stupid and naive. I have to think posters are trolls from Wake board or Iowa state board.
I just read the articles and drew conclusions. they were pretty consistent...we pulled the offer after red carpet weekend.

that doesnt burn me as much as we have assumed the role of MIF pawn.

I think I may need to unplug from IL for a few days. Some of you guys are just way over the deep end right now. There's absolutely no way to know the long term effects of this week's events until several years from now. Jumping to conclusions about it now is useless.

One is a team player one wants to go pro as soon as possible.

These are neither mutually exclusive nor collectively exhaustive categories. Let's not suggest that we know more about the players and their intentions than we actually know.

They are both really good players who have enjoyed both team and individual success, and both will be attending good programs with an eye towards an NBA future. We are fortunate to have one of them committed to the U of I.

My allegince to the Illini has waned, but many faithful are missing a very interesting part of this equation. Orlando Antigua is currently on our staff and understands recruiting very well after serving under Squid. To think BU hasn't listened to his opinion is short-sighted.

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN.... Very unfortunate what happened to THT and how this was all handled, but it is what it is. I am tired of being mediocre in basketball and by all the complaining that is done on this forum, I know you are too. Our coaching staff has now pulled in back to back IL Mr. Basketballs and now more than likely have a gateway to the Mac Irvin Fire for years to come.

Breath people, as long as Ayo commits, talent will follow. Look at the influence they had over this entire situation, our university, and our coaches.

Yeah go home you’re drunk. Irvin’s made sure Illinois “put the lotion on it’s skin” today. We did our most shameful thing in years today and few people here care.

Most of us care, and feel bad about how things transpired. It's not like BU and staff had nefarious intentions in pursuing THT (he's a great player and would have been a welcome addition). Most people are rightfully upset that we put ourselves in this position and that the staff failed to clear up any areas of potential unease before the OV. They tried to get both even though they knew there would likely be pushback and did not gauge things correctly. A communication breakdown.

No matter The Who, what, when, where, why, or how, Illinois ends up looking bad today, real bad imo. However it happened, we got put in a trick bag, at a time where we can't afford another ounce of negative press. Between the FBI banter, and in all honesty, a great one player class, but sub par overall class, this shouldn't happen!

If Ayo was willing to play with THT, then we REALLY screwed up today.
Because that's what the coaching staff wanted.

And if the coaching staff and the prospective student athletes (and only them) aren't the ones in control of this outcome, then someone needs to intervene in the program immediately.

Nonsense... that is not how recruiting works, it is a marathon not a sprint.

Well the lunatics are running the asylum as usual in Chicago. I hope todays recruiting events came with a guarantee that we will be getting Okoro and Whitney in '19 and Miller in '20. I hope this means UK and Snacks will never get another MIF player at midnight madness. Seriously, if MIF sends a 5*to UK,KU,NC, Dook or any other school we are going to look like chumps. Just because a snake looks fat and happy doesn't mean it won't bite you in 6 months, and that's what we have just let loose in our house.

Answer me who can inform the media that THT wants to come but we pull the rug? Can our staff? No. Can MIF? No. MIF should not talk about Illinois offering a nonMIF recruit. Are those writers parasites in BU's head? No. So where do they get the news? How can you gurantee those are true?

Yeah, everything has been fabricated to make Illinois look bad.

Or maybe there's a simpler explanation that doesn't involve a wide-ranging conspiracy.

At least we weren't the Bridesmaid this time that we are so accustomed with, can't remember a time when we turned away the #2 player in IL at the alter:p

If Underwood, Ayo and THT were all on the same page, and it didn't get done ... there is no justification good enough for me. Our program has been hijacked.

There is plenty of good justification, if you don't understand the dynamics of the marketplace you are in, you have no business being in that marketplace.

By most accounts today, we DID let this happen. Staff apparently knew it was one or the other.

I have no problem with having to make a choice. It sure seems like they tried to force the issue, with disasterous results potentially.

There have to be facets to this situation that are unavailable to the vast majority of us at this point.

There’s frankly no way the staff would have rolled out the red carpet for THT last weekend on the heels of the biggest commitment breakthrough in ages if they hadn’t felt the situation out thoroughly.

So that means something tangibly changed in the meantime, which, of course, has been discussed here previously. I don’t have any more information that anyone else here, but I’m a little loathe to blame this all on the Irvins and our staff at this point.

It seems to me that the staff did get put in an unexpected/untenable situation after having done their due diligence. It’s been bandied about in other places that the rift goes beyond the MIF split, and if true, would indicate a deeply personal family issue that’s not at all basketball or AAU power broker related.

So I guess I’d be a little cautious about publicly lambasting the staff, the Irvins, and the Dosunmos, because the big picture tells us that these folks are actually the ones that have demonstrably done things in the UI’s favor.

Just imagine if THT was your kid and he was ready to commit to a major college that he just visited and was treated like he was wanted to only have that offer taken away from him on the day of his commitment...I honestly think we will black flagged by other schools and this will hurt us in the long run..

Doesn't this happen to some extent in job interviews and high schoolers applying to colleges every day?
