HEY, NOW!!! That's my alma mater. Athletes since, well, forever. Curtis Granderson, Pierre Thomas, and ME, to name three. Two of those are not like the other....
Off script but, after living in south Florida the past few years, I had to smile at the mention of Curtis Granderson. He seems to have one of those personalities that lights up the room. Guarantee he is headed into broadcasting once he hangs up his cleats. Which, after playing for the Marlins, may be real soon!

Can't speak to the other two athletes mentioned.

Interesting if Miller's camp is actually hung up on Ayo potentially not going pro. That seems to be about the surest thing in the Illini basketball world right now.

Even if he didn't turn PRO, we would still being losing DreFeliz...there still would be minutes. The only way this hesitation makes any sense to me if Adam Miller believes he is a 1 and done...if he believes this, then that year of sitting for some minutes vs playing for alot of minutes makes sense?

If his handlers are telling him he is a 1 and done, and the belief is there, then he HAS to pick a school where he plays starter minutes from the get go...that said, I believe he is obviously a hell of a player, but not a 1 and done, anymore than Ayo was or I thought he was. AM, is a still at the end of the day a 6'3-4" CG, with PG skills....he is not a 5* PG with CG skills. Drafting 1 and done's this factor makes a difference. Alot of CG's with that size with similiar skill sets to compete against in the draft process....less TRUE PG.

All that mentioned, I still hope like HELL that we get him, and I love the shooter/athlete he is and what he could bring to the ILLINI, and what his committment would mean as far as furthering the rebuild of our storied program.

Exactly PlayAZ,
And don't they have a history of playing together? Arizona State has 6 guards returning for 20-21 (Including Alonzo Verge who will be a Sr.). Obviously Hurley is offering starter minutes from day 1. I hope his support crew isn't seriously pushing the one and done thing.

Hate to pick on you again man but I don’t think there would be enough minutes for all those guys. Ayo, Frazier, Curbelo, Miller, Griffin and Da’Monte at the guard spots would be too crowded for someone’s liking.
Also, your whole NBA analysis...I could not follow that and definitely would not agree with it. AM just participated in a Team USA camp and walked away looking like one of the top players there. He’s ranked like 32 in 247composite and has been ranked a 5 star previously. The ESPN guys, formerly of DraftExpress and probably most reliable guys in the industry, had AM in the late half of the first round in their initial 2021 Mock Draft that they just recently released. Hes more developed physically than Ayo was at the same age. Kid looks the part already. He’s going to want to play right away and play a lot.

I think with the new Cali law, and the talk from Congress regarding implementing a similar federal law to take effect 2021, that we'll start seeing a change in the importance of different factors during recruitments.

For example, would Myers Leonard have stayed another year if he had signed a $100k per year shoe deal after his sophomore season? Clearly he made more being drafted 1st round in hindsight, but who knows how many kids that would affect their decision making process.

Will freshman care more about playing time, or endorsement opportunity?

Also remember that the Cali law allows players to sign agents which will likely change the whole decision making process of staying or going.

I wonder if this year's HS seasons like Adam MIiller are gameplanning these different scenarios. I could see where he wouldn't want to be stuck in the NCAA while the laws are changing. I wouldn't be suprised if AM and other players are looking at this next year as a potential 1 and done no matter what due to the chaos that will likely follow in 2021.

What if as a result of compromise between NBA and NCAA the NBA adopts a baseball draft rule combined with HS players signing agents and getting NIL money. Player signs agent senior year of HS, they enter draft, and if not drafted then enter college for 3 years or play in developmental or overseas league. They will be able to solicit NIL contracts while playing in NCAA and compare those to salaries offered by overseas and developmental teams. Lot for these players to think about now.

....

He has to worry about his own situation, and that's fair. Ayo is consensus first rounder, and potentially loterry, so barring a career-threatening injury, he's gone. If Miller wants insurance against Ayo staying, I would think it'd be better to get him signed with the understanding he can re-evaluate if Ayo doesn't declare, rather than let it be a hold up. That's up to the Admin & coaches, but I think I'd take that risk if it were my call.
