Evan Daniels ‏@EvanDaniels Kentucky, USA 2017 elite big man Mohamed Bamba took an unofficial visit to Harvard today, per a source. He took an official to Michigan this past weekend.

I would so like to see the number 3 prospect in the country go to Harvard.

Jerry Meyer ‏@jerrymeyer247 3h3 hours ago
UNC head coach Roy Williams to visit a top 150 ranked big man per @GTuckerHoops. ASU & Georgia also slated to visit.

Meanwhile, in part thanks to Jeremiah and in part thanks to the possibility of future shoes dropping, Roy is out with the common folk looking for big men.

My yahoo sports app just posted an article about his eligibility concerns. He may never step foot on a court as a college athlete due to academic stuff/NCAA clearinghouse issues. I guess that is the chance UK, KU, and Arizona were taking!

It was funny this afternoon, checking in on the message boards, all 3 schools were saying the other 2 would somehow for sure get him eligible but it would be hard for their school to do it. And of course, saying the other 2 schools would pay whatever it took to get him there and eligible.

The announcement reminded me a lot of Goodwins. Kansas was the leader forever and all of a sudden he just up and says he's announcing. This time though, there wasn't even a week or so of smoke about another school beforehand.
Typical Kansas reaction:
"LOL Arizona!!
Sean Miller: Turning one-n-done bigs into 4 year bench players with no skill."

He should have gone to Kansas then. They have an uncanny ability to get their academically marginal recruits through the clearinghouse. (Actually, Cal pulled a rabbit out of a hat to get Skal Labissiere eligible, so UK apparently can play the game pretty well, too.)

The new NCAA academic standards will be challenging for some, thus the flurry of HS/Prep transfers.

Geez- Arizona could field a decent NBA team with guys who commit there and never play there.

According to his AAU coach, he's planning on taking all 5 OV's, but what does that guy know.:)

I'm sure the kid doesn't even know if he'll actually end up taking all 5, let alone the AAU coach.

Article says it started this year (2016), but for some reason I think they delayed it a year to 2017 start.

http://www.ncaa.com/news/ncaa/article/2012-04-26/new-eligibility-standards-start-2016

It started this year. The kids have known about the requirement for a long time now but most didn't notice how difficult it could be to get a certain GPA and a qualifying ACT score. I've already talked to one 3/4 star kid that is going the juco route because of it. It's too high of a standard IMO especially since some of the kids would get into some colleges like EIU, SIU, NIU, etc even without the scholly. Why hold them to a higher standard than the regular population?

The kids are having no issue getting the 10 core classes in before their 7th semester. It's the GPA part that is causing kids to look at different schools. The ACT factor isn't really a controllable factor but GPA can vary tremendously depending on the school.. Another reason why the sliding scale is flawed. Now with schools moving to standards based grading, there's going to be a new factor but IMO it'll help students, especially if they move to a district implementing it correctly.

Wilkes is visiting this weekend, correct?
Yes. Wilkes visiting.

And it appears our new AD is going to make it a very memorable rockin' ORANGE environment this Saturday night. Having JW as our Athletic Director is like having an alumnus in the job (oh, wait.....)

When I look back at Groce taking recruits to half-full Memorial Stadium over the past three years, it was totally embarrassing. It was probably like going to an AWAY non-conference high school football game for most of the kids. JW is doing his part. This will be a true Big Ten environment. The needle is definitely pointing up.

Good thing our fan base is above these kind of sour grapes.

:thumb:Like I said in another post, fans are fans be they blue bloods or back in the pack. Message board responses to ups and downs are almost always the same no matter what the condition of the teams.

And speaking of fans being fans no matter where. Here's a Jeff Goodman exchange that I found humorous. We're all just homers basically.

Crazy aspect with DeAndre Ayton commitment to Arizona is Sean Miller success recruiting vs. Calipari. Kaleb, Gordon, Stanley Johnson, Ayton.

@GoodmanESPN is the ultimate Cal hater. There's a reason UK Athletics gives him zero access to players. #miserable

@Quack_Quack4 No, I actually deal in facts and information. You are just a homer.
