Indiana, like most teams will have some turn-over. But players 11-13 should be concerned about their spot, Crean has shown that he is willing to show players the door in particular ways. Didn't he have a senior day for a player who still had one more year of eligibility and planned to return?

If you look at the timing of Wilkes' visits us (this weekend), UCLA (in 2 weeks) and Indiana (3 weeks) then there is basically a month of time before he is scheduled at Xavier (end of Oct) and UConn (Early Nov). Xavier has an in-home scheduled for Sept 13th. So it is quite possible he only takes the first 3 visits and decides. I just don't know if I see this going all the way until after his UConn visit in Nov. At a certain point most kids want to get a decision and be able to focus on their senior season.

I made that point 1-2 days ago. I believe he has in-home visits with UCLA and Indiana. So my belief is that he will visit Illinois and then have his in home visits by the other schools. If he decides to go elsewhere he will likely do it as a committed player. Similar to what DJ and Jordan did two years ago. Just my opinion from what I have seen in the past and players not dragging this out into late Sept/Oct.

Players 11-13 are concerned on any team, given that they find themselves outside the main rotation. So it is not just an IU/Crean thing. No player thinks that they will end up at the end of the bench when they commit, but every team will have a 12th and 13th player. It is not that the 12th or 13th player on our bench will necessarily be happy or feel safe either, but that is college basketball.

If Wilkes stops his planned visits and makes an announcement, just look at his last visit. That rules does not fail. If he takes more visits after Illinois, better hope he takes all of them.

if i was a college recruit, i would schedule five official visits, take four, schedule an announcement, commit to a school that wasn't even on the list, and then take the last official visit to that school. just to troll people like us. :D

Wilkes' here early in the morning. Staff is going all out for him, Dee will be his tour guide the next two days.

Howard Moore (Wisky) visiting Stevenson High School today...presumably to see Justin Smith. Smith has upcoming visits to IU, Xavier, and Stanford.

You can call that a final four list, if you want.:(

No surprise there. He was never very interested in Illinois. But on to bigger and brighter things with Wilkes visit!
I'm bummed JS will not be donning the O&B, but there are still some around here that feel we have a shot. I suppose we might, but at this point, there's like .01% chance.

I would love for Wilkes to happen. We are really going to be hurting for bigs.

Good point. Still worried about bigs...

Still won't be surprised if we end up with a transfer big or 5th year. I don't think we'll get any of our remaining targeted bigs, but surely we'll have other guys pop up in the spring.

If that happens, we're in big trouble down the line. :(

With the current roster, we would have a really difficult time getting a decent 4 or 5 high school kid to commit. We won't get another 5 from the 2017 class because Tilmon is a lock as the starting 5, and we have some pretty decent options at the 4. We're still thin at the 5 because it would just be Tilmon, and Finke if we're desperate. Because of that, we would have a hard time convincing a high school kid to commit just to be there when Tilmon needs a rest. I think we can get a 5th year to provide those minutes though. Sure, some transfer just for more for playing time, but I think there are some guys that are more mature and would see the benefits of being a solid back-up on a good team and in a power conference for their 5th year. We can also sell a transfer on coming here and sitting out for a year, bulk-up, and in the meantime practice against a McDonald's AA big with a slight chance of him heading the draft early.

I don't disagree with anything you've said. I don't want to cause panic or spread rumors, so I'll just say that if we don't get another big in '17, I'm concerned with that component of our roster. As you say, it's thin. A 5th year may help, but that leaves very little room for...ummmm... error.

Without errors ...Depth at big is a concern for sure, at one point going into last year we thought we had 5 bigs & we ended the season with only 2; best case right now have 3 bigs in 2017 and no Malcom who has played much of his career at stretch 4, in 2018 we hopefully keep all 3, but 2 will likely be eligible for 5th yr transfer and the third is ranked highly enough that there is some chance he tries to go to the NBA. In 2019, Black & Finke are gone & just Tilmon is left. Counting on 2 freshman 2019 bigs in the rotation is not a plan. We have to push hard for another 2017 freshman big & should be willing to reach a bit to find one that can develop into serious minutes by 2019 season. Then we are still looking hard in 2018 for another big.

IMO we'll have an easier time getting a H.S. PF/C to commit than a fifth-year player. A 5th year kid is generally going to be more acutely interested in immediate playing time. A H.S. recruit might accept that he isn't likely to start his FR year.

That said, I'll be happy with either scenario. And I do agree it behooves us to add another 4/5 guy.

Haha, thanks for recognizing I'm still out here, Patriot.:thumb:
