Theory: BU is chasing 6-8 players he WANTS and has a good shot at. If he gets less than 3 of them, he's content to wait until Spring rather than lower his standards. That tells me he has confidence that the Illinois MBB brand will be more marketable in six months than it is today. I know I think it will.
My thoughts as well! Yes I think we sign a player or 2 early but most recruits want to see wins which I believe will come this year! Underwood/staff have a lot to sell but recruits want to see results and they will!! :illinois:

Oh, you mean like at Mizzery??? I think this is oft-repeated meme is way overrated. We've seen plenty of times where a coach moves to a school with a recent history of losing and pull in some nice classes the first few years. Is it a hindrance? Of course. But the right staff ( I think we have that. ) can overcome that. The sales pitch in year one will be vastly different then in year 4, but it is definitely do-able.

1. No one is suggesting it will take more than a few years

2. I don't want to get recruits by hiring their dad, or by our coach going to the high school of a committed player to talk to him

It just seems like BU is after a select group of guys, and not panicking (dropping his standards) because none have signed. I would expect that to continue if only one or two sign by November - with the confidence that he will have an improved sales pitch by March.

So we need to hire our version of Mr. Porter? 😄

I completely understand the optimism about the new staff, truly a home run group. BUT, we have ZERO commitments, ZERO!!!!!

Fall signing not for a while, many high end targets interested, crystal balls, yada yada, bottom line is we have NOTHING for 2018; no other FACTS to state.

It is more likely at this point the class underwhelmes than not; certainly could change, but as of today, it is what it is! Enough of the "It will work out" because BU and the boys are bad !!!. Until it comes together, be demanding!
I get this point of view. Lots to be optimistic about but at the same time we have been down this optimism road many times only to be disappointed. Many of us can't help to take this optimism with a grain of salt because we have been let down more times than not. Here is to hoping that us fans fearing the worst are proved to be wrong for fearing disappointment!

Relax, my friend. I'm a big basketball fan, too, but life will go on whether we have all of our scholarships filled come next year or none of them. No need to sweat the small stuff.

With that said, I trust the coaching staff more than I trust any analyst or board member here. The early signing period is still months away and really what counts is who is coming next June. Obviously, we had guys committed that didn't come and then proceeded to add 3 freshman from April and later on.

Cool.

What do you suggest I do? I could picket in front of Underwood's house until he finally gets a verbal.

Perhaps I could call the assistant coaches at night, screaming into the phone until they get somebody committed. I don't have their numbers, but whatever.

Maybe I could go on a hunger strike? No food until we get Ayo!

I'm open to suggestions.

Khadim Sy Leaves Virginia Tech. Isn't VT one of Nolley's final five. The possible resultant playing time could be a selling point.

Of course, Nolley should ask why players seem to be leaving VT.

As much as I love buzz, vt will never be better than middle of the pack in that acc. There are too many power programs in that conference that can recruit way better than vt.

Illinois has the ability to be top of the pack in the big ten. We just need a coach that can coach AND recruit again. I think Underwood is that guy.

So basically what I'm saying is there is more potential for success at Illinois and the ceiling is FAR higher.

About time we started standing up for ourselves around here and stopped being walked on by coaches who don't have any respect for our impatience! :thumb:

#Illini bball coaches visited Talen Horton-Tucker last night. Scale 1-10 his visit was a (7-8). Definitely enjoyed it, 3-4 coaches showed.

7-8 on a 10?

That doesn't speak unbridled enthusiasm to me.
