We need to start considering the possibility that there might be actual smoke. Twitter notwithstanding.

EDIT: though these could be people riding Meyer's coattails.

well,well,well

1. LN tweets CC and says family and CC tweets bro, u already know !
insinuates playing together for Illini

2. crystal balls 86 % to VT for LN

which one do you predict ?

I vote 1 all the way for the good ole O & B

Nolley is trending to VT because of his OV coming up. Once he completes the trip, if he hasn't committed while he's there, then CBs will start coming back to ILL. "Experts" are hedging their bets in case he does commit while there. He definitely won't commit to Illinois while on his visit to VT, so it makes sense to say VT just in case.

Don't take it too seriously and stress out about it.

The O'Brien tweet could have a lot to do with the crystal balls in the absence of other evidence. On the other hand, I think what kids put on twitter is completely meaningless in regard to recruiting if not deliberately misleading.

I doubt any of those writers know who O'Brien is. All he tweeted was what he heard -- I'm assuming Mike Oliver -- say. If they even read that, or knew it might be from Oliver, I doubt it would be a reason for them to pick VT. It could be the follow the Meyer thing but when Slater is the first guy and an insider from VT is one of the first, I tend to think there is some info coming out from that side of the country.
But Illini Swami says not to worry, they're all guessing so he must have his finger on the pulse of the recruitment. Right?

Crystal Balls

Everybody just needs to look at the Mark Smith recruitment to see an example of how crystal balls can go astray. He was a heavy Michigan State lean a couple weeks before the recruitment ended and then it swung back to Illinois. Not saying that's what's happening here, just not to take them too seriously unless someone has done inside information (which happens, cough Tilmon)

Was that linked/posted on here and I missed it? I went back several pages and didn't see anything.

#Illini fans: Curie people in contact w/Landers Nolley say he’ll stay in the south for college. For same reasons he returned after soph yr.

This is not necessarily true. 10-15lbs on a 6'11" frame is practically nothing. I guarantee if castleton put on 10lbs a lot of folks would still be concerned he'd need to put on size/strength. A guy like Castleton should absolutely be eating big while training for strength & power, especially in his lower body. There's a right way and wrong way to approach gains. If done correctly Castleton can put on plenty of size and move even better.

Apologies. 10-15 lbs of muscle. He'll "fill out" some on his own.

My main point is he does not have the frame of a Meyers Leonard (few do) and if you threw 40 lbs on him for the sake of just adding weight you'd see a less agile fluid athlete similar to what Tisdale looked like his last couple years.

Conditt is another guy that is never going to play at his best if you get him up to 235-245. He's going to just lug a bunch of weight around.

Not so sure Kisunas and Petrusev are plan B guys.

Aren't we in kind of late on these guys? Don't we hate it when other schools offer our targets late in the game? By our logic, they shouldn't consider us.

Don't forget there is no love lost between Curie and Illini. Curie would love to see Landers go anywhere but Illinois.

Gaining weight is not a good goal for basketball.
Improving strength to mass ratio is the goal.
If your strength to mass ratio goes up, you move better period.

Ok right but if you are a nick smith rail and some barkley dude puts his butt on you, you're going to go flying regardless of your ratio.:noidea:

Mass is great for traditional banging post players in a half court game, but not nearly as much playing full court bc you have to carry that extra mass around. A heavier guy will certainly have an advantage during post contact (bc center of mass is conserved), but the heavier guy will also be at a disadvantage pretty much the rest of the time because he has to carry around the extra weight. Imagine playing basketball with and without a 20 pound backpack strapped on.

There is a difference between muscle mass and muscular strength. We don't want body builder types with huge soft muscles. We don't want fatties. We don't want sticks that have not put in the work to maximize their genetic strength. We want super strong dense and lean athletes that can move seemingly without effort, especially in BU's system. Think olympic sprinter as a body type goal.

CC commit is 1st thing to be concerned about. Fletcher will do his magic once he's here. Look at this years guys, they love Fletcher. See all the photos with them before and after? Our staff has exceeded my expectations so far with workouts and conditioning. Thank God we have them to prepare the guys for the season. Our new recruits will be the same as long as we have Fletcher in his place and BU in charge.

October 7, Nolley commits, my guess CC is right in step with him,. October 7, Ayo has OV. Never know what will happen.;):illinois:

Yeah, Fletch seems to be really good.
Hope we get the type of class you are talking about.

Great, this should definitely help and will put some pressure on Castleton and Conditt. Plus gives us an extra option for a potential big to pick up.
