At 5-10 , weight isn't the major issue playing the 4/5 :)
GV fan? I remember him/Manny Jackson/Bill Burwell/....great memories through the years! I grew up about 50 miles north of Champaign. Back then we got ONE channel...WCIA. Watched all the Illinois games.

Saw somewhere that Kordell Charles plans to commit later this week. Illinois was in his top 3 with Marquette and Tulsa, are we still pursuing him?

I would think we are pretty well set at the SF but no clue. Haven't heard anything in some time on him.

Weren't we a player for Christian Brown out of High School? If I remember, Illinois wasn't good enough for 2 kids out of Oak Hill.
We were in on that recruitment down to the end if I recall. Who could have imagined his Georgia basketball experience wouldn't be ideal?

Would we take him? Still has good size/athleticism and not a bad 3 pt%, admittedly with a low sample size. Could be a Chaundee Brown type of player for us.

Big difference between the 2. Chaundee was/is a proven high-impact player. Christian was a good recruit that has proven nothing in college yet.

Agreed. It's shocking how mediocre Brown is. He only averaged about 12 minutes/game on a bad Georgia team. Doesn't bode well for his future. He'd probably be best served by transferring to a mid-major.

Alabama gets a commitment from top 30 PF Charles Bediako. Burnett is not too far behind.

Love it when a Chicago kid returns to his roots in (checks notes)....Alabama....

Could those in his ear be more transparent about shopping around for the best offer? Dear lord. Burnett has a ton of upside, but Curbelo needs a wing that shoots above 40 percent from distance on good volume. Maybe Miller comes back, maybe it’s Franklin, maybe it’s Podz thrust into a starting role. I never saw Burnett in that role and his shooting percentages were abysmal. Heck of a defender though with excellent length on the perimeter.

So, question for the uninitiated, why do other teams seem to better capitalize on success w/r/t recruiting than we do? We bowed out a little earlier, but we had as good or better season than the Alabama’s, Auburns, etc with 2 all Americans playing an exciting brand of basketball. Why are these places more attractive destinations?

Edit: maybe Chieeefff answered my question?

I was never big on Burnett for this reason.

My understanding is that is Burnett’s situation. I think a few factors have hurt Illinois recruiting in general the last fifteen years (in no particular order): 1) we have been very bad until recent; 2) academic standards/clearing them are higher at U of I than a lot of other programs; 3) Chicago and St. Louis recruiting is a dumpster fire; 4) we have not sent anyone to the league in forever, much less a player that has gotten paid and played a huge role on an NBA team.

The good news, we are chipping away at 1 and 4 in a big way, which will help with 3. Now if my dream scenario of the Bulls drafting Ayo plays out...I think it will be a boost to Chicago recruiting.

I’ll add that I think the team success helps immeasurably for recruiting out of state guys and those ranked in that 50-100 range. You can build a contender with enough of those pieces alone and proper roster construction.
