Quincy Guerrier has cut his list down to 4 schools and we are on it. He improved his 3pt% from a paltry 12.5% his freshman year (3/24) to a 31% this past season (23/74). It's nice to see not only improvement in that area, but also more willingness to shoot it from deep. Averaged a little over 13 points which is pretty good in a P6 conference. My main concern is defense as he'd be switching into a completely different system than what Boeheim runs. Might take him a bit to be ready defensively and we need a prototypical 4 right away imo. I think I read this is a backup plan for Mitchell and I still would rather have Mitchell, but Guerrier isn't a bad consolation prize by any means.

I would change some things. Here is my ideal 2021-2022 Fighting Illini starting lineup:

No. 1 Guard- Austin Hutcherson
No. 2 Guard- Austin Hutcherson
No. 3 Guard/Forward- Austin Hutcherson
No. 4 Forward- Austin Hutcherson
No. 5 Forward/Center- Austin Hutcherson
Real funny. I'm sure he thinks a lot of you too. It is ironic how many people on here want to make jokes about Hutcherson. Then say he needs to have thick skin. Probably the same whiners that badmouthed Curbelo for being a ball hog and getting way to much playing time last year, that are now worried he could transfer to Kentucky. What a joke. I'm sure any player would love getting on here and reading jokes about them. Classy.

There are a couple of a major differences.

1) If you have a contract with team A, you can not unilaterally choose to transfer to team B.
2) Before it seemed like only the 5* players got a visit from the bagman. Now I expect that every 4* will expect a non-trivial payment. I also expect the bidding wars on the 5* players to go much higher than before.

The universities brought that problem on themselves. If you pay well below market, don't offer multi-year contracts or guarantees, the athletes are going to look a lot less loyal even though they are not the cause --it's the employer. Loyalty is a two way street --so if you bring in the #1 rated h.s. athlete for a schollie, when the free market puts that at six figures plus a schollie, then don't be surprised if he feels grossly underpaid. We know from the countless scandals, leaks, and investigations, that a lot of loyalty comes from the goodwill of boosters recognizing the gap and figuring out ways to make up for it. Whatever you might think of that system, the athletes, and the administrators that designed this cluster!@#$, it's a laughingstock. It's a model that incentivizes scandals and going around the rules. And boy oh boy is there plenty of that.

These issues get a lot more muddy as you go down the talent pool. I'm not suggesting it explains the massive amount of transfers, but I think it's a significant factor in the upper tier, and even as you drop down there are still plenty of guys who over-performed their initial college selection that want an upgrade in the program/amenities.

I'd like to think the NCAA will move towards a more equitable model, but history says they only move when public opinion is so loud that states like California pass laws to force them into allowing the athletes get some of the revenue. With the pace of change in the business end of college athletics, I'm not sure things will settle down any time soon, either.

If I had a vote, I would (1) prohibit Hutch jokes, (2) prohibit the phrase “asking for a friend,” but (3) allow us to call each other jackasses on occasion. This is the platform on which I am running for Loyalty office.

I try to never put players down. They chose the Illini and I respect that. I may not think some players are all that great....but I keep that to myself!

Can we put out a loyalty Public Service Announcement letting all posters know that Hutch jokes aren’t directed at him or demeaning.

The jokes are meant for the few posters who drank an extra helping of orange koolaid and gave overly optimistic projections for his stats next year based off of limited practice/back recovery reports.

Most (if not all) posters are actively rooting for him and hope he is great.

Edit: Doc beat me to it.

That might be the intent, but it doesn't necessarily come across that way.

Schadenfreude is not everyone's bag. Some get it and love it, some are angered and put off. (See: Fran McCaffery)

I think Dan has a pretty good handle on posts that cross the line or have obvious mal intent.

Comedy is in the eye, ear, and mind of the beholder.
There are actually people that think Dane Cook, Larry the Cable Guy, and Carrot Top are funny.

There is no ill intent towards Hutch.

You can have our "a more athletic Larry Bird" when you pry it from our cold, dead keyboards.

This could be for another thread but, I heard he is being considered for the AC job. :)

Are you sure that is how he would take it? I doubt that is the way you would take it if your name was being used as the brunt of a joke every day.
Are you saying that Hutch is a snowflake? That he can’t handle good-natured fun. Plus, why do you think he would actually read this forum. That seems pretty lame.

I don't think much of certain posters, but tend to keep my own counsel on that.
