When I see video of the various recruits I am almost impressed by them. Makes me more appreciative of coaches ability to evaluate them and the blend them into a team. Kinda convinced that there are a very few exceptional players and a pretty large group with little differation. Becomes more of a work ethic and a williness to accept a team role than pure raw talent.

Our staff is good at ID-ing kids with the right stuff (in addition to talent/skills).

Zag's blog would indicate Schutt ain't coming here.
I hope it's not indicative of any true feelings about the Illini.

Bass could be on board, but is the coaching staff? Might not be his decision.
At the end of the day, the decision is totally in the hands of the coaching staff. Same as it ever was. Offers, verbal or written, are not a contract. If a kid visits, that's a major tell. FWLIW, I feel that our staff is very forthright with recruits, not games players.

I don't think they are game players either. Actually I would say there's no way that Brad and co. play games. Bass might simply not be able to take a hint. Or, he is really lacking any other power 5 offers if the off the court rumors are true. The staff can't stop him from posting Illini stuff and saying he is still "committed" even if they have moved on. Worst case scenario they will simply not send him an NLI and he will eventually give it up.

It's all speculation until something happens one way or another but I wouldn't expect him to stick in the class. If you listen to Piper and Jeremy's podcasts (not premium info) they talk like he is already gone. Multiple times they have talked about the 2022 class and only mention 2 commits. I think it's telling that the staff didn't go to any of Bass' games in July outside of the one that he played against Epps. That should be a pretty telltale sign of their involvement (or lack thereof) with him

I have no idea if Bass is still a go or not, but should it be the latter I very highly doubt we’ll hear anything about it from the Illini staff. And if the reason or part of the reason there has been a split is because of how he has acted on court, it would make sense for him not to announce he is reopening his recruitment until some time has at least passed from those actions. Hopefully he has learned something from it and shows he is a better teammate going forward so that when he does reopen things he’ll have put that all behind him in the eyes of other coaches recruiting him.

Interesting. Staff seems to handle difficult situations well --being forthright but also sensitive about a recruit's future either way. Doesn't guarantee things go in a positive direction, but keeps the most options open for all concerned.

I have no impulse control whatsoever when it comes to our recruitment of Reggie Bass.

That's Terrific Bass.gif

Did anyone ever ask Reggie how he pronounced his last name ?????

Schutt is pronounced shoot....
Bass might be like a bass guitar......

It's not like Loyalty to NOT be inquisitive about this .....
