Overtime is more than just the basketball league.Yeah I don't think anyone is disputing that. I think the questions are around how these companies make any money to pay the kids since next to no one watches these leagues.

RE: Ignite/G League vs going to college….the draw is simple. These kids want to get paid for their talents while they have the ability to get paid for their talents. They aren’t thinking about long term, what happens when I can’t play anymore. The line of thinking is “I’ll make so much money while I play, that won’t matter”. And honestly, I don’t blame them one bit.
NIL is nice to help college compete, but G League is paying them, they don’t have to deal with classes AND they have a college ride built into the contract. Sure, they can’t play D1 college ball at that point, but it’s a free education later.
It's TBD on how much money you can make in basketball at any school, the only guarantee is that check the G-League and Overtime Elite hand you for signing with them. I'm not totally convinced yet that you can be guaranteed to make over 500k with NIL in basketball unless you're someone like Zion, who might have made millions. In that case though he was basically the Michael Jordan of college basketball.Sure they get a six figure salary for one year to play in the league. To the point several people have brought up, most people don't care about and have no plans to watch these games. So while it worked out for someone like Jonathan Kuminga does anyone really think he couldn't have made just as much at a school like UK now that NIL is a thing. I personally think the potential earnings from NIL at a college more than compensate for the salary in these leagues. The fanbases for major college basketball schools is huge and will drive sales of gear as well as boost social media following which will be monetized.
The only real reason to go to these league is because the person just hates the idea of school to the point that they won't even tolerate the appearance of getting an education.

Maybe we should all create 10+ twitter accounts and give our guys some follows.I think a lot of people on here are thinking of NIL in the traditional print and media ads and selling of "things". I expect these young athletes to displace the current social media influencers and that is where the real profits will come from. Companies pay a lot for a couple hundred thousand followers. On top of that they could easily get on twitch and get themselves 5-10k subs if they have a bit of charisma
I think it will be significantly more, but I have no idea how much they will actually earn per player. I'm sure there will be disappointments. I think there will be some deals where the whole team will split the pot. I like that idea, but the big earners aren't going to be interested in that.I too question just how much NIL $$ these athletes will make....how many athletes(in all sports) at U of I will be expecting to make NIL dollars this year??? 10? 20?....to me the more athletes you have competing for NIL $$ in a market area the tougher it will be to make the type of money some on here are suggesting these athletes can make.....I do think players (like Kofi) will make a good deal of NIL money....but I suspect others will be disappointed

Prevents them? I think allowing/encouraging that (even if it is with a wink) was the whole point of enacting this. What prevents boosters from funneling money to players by purchasing a bunch of their stuff?
Nothing. But what prevents any random person from funneling money to another person by purchasing a bunch of their stuff they produce? Nothing. That's called commerce, and there is no reason why college basketball players should arbitrarily be cut out of it when college students who are not NCAA athletes can sell whatever they want. What prevents boosters from funneling money to players by purchasing a bunch of their stuff?
is Oregon going to make their college kids take math and reading, be a recruiting bonus if they don'tSure they get a six figure salary for one year to play in the league. I really think we're going to uncover the college sports NIL markets will widely vary and play into recruits decisions, and perhaps transfers. Some schools may "Have Alot" and some "Have Less". I would imagine places like Texas maybe even Oklahoma state will rise to the top of the NIL Mountain....not sure where we will land on Spectrum... Kofi's, Andre's and maybe Trent's Trent's will be a good gauge. It's way more than 10-20. There could be a small amount of actual endorsement type deals, but there will be a lot of athletes that no one even knows who can profit off their social media where they couldn't before.
I hope that’s the case. I have some fear that the Kofis and Andres could be the exception. If Trent can pull in 6 figures plus, I feel pretty good about our ability to attract a decent money pool. Kofi and Andre are National draws that have much more potential or at least that’s how I see it. I’m sure someone will lecture me on Underwoods recruiting prowess, but the money has to be there or it won’t matter.I really think we're going to uncover the college sports NIL markets will widely vary and play into recruits decisions, and perhaps transfers. Illinois shot down in flames!
Hoping for schutt right or wrong as far as guards go
Hadn't heard of this guy before today, and this board does a pretty good job of discussing the recruits the staff seems to really be going hard after. We've offered approximately a bajillion guys. Just because we offered doesn't mean we were going after him hard.
