Exactly. Don't think Hamilton is leaning on Barnes in recruiting guys like Corhen. Vassell is the real selling point here. By no means was he considered an NBA prospect before he came to FSU. Just look at this offer sheet:

If I'm a big I 100/100 times go to FSU over Illinois, I wouldn't even think twice about it. Way too much money on the line to put things to chance, Hamilton has the track record. We have one 2nd rounder in nearly a decade who also took 3 years to get to that point.

For the record, FSU has had 7 first round picks in the last decade (and another 5 second rounders, including Terance Mann who had a great playoffs last year with the Clips). Those 7 were ranked: 17, 39, 8, 270, 200, 26, and 7 in the country out of high school.

The idea that a kid (or his father, or both) shouldn't be enamored with the idea of playing for Hamilton is crazy. I don't think Corhen will be a first round pick, at least anytime soon. Regardless, that wouldn't matter in his and his family's eyes as clearly going to Tallahassee is his best shot at getting drafted, period. Until we consistently put guys in the league we can't sell draft potential.

Add to the fact that he's undersized, probably got told that and sold on the fact that he would get beat up in the B1G, and his style better suits the ACC, and we simply got beat out. Everyone knew it was bad when he left his second OV without committing whether that was his or his dad's decision doesn't matter. Sucks, but on to the next.

Why would you need to buy up a local business when you could just create a new shell company for pennies on the dollar?
Optics and the ability to redirect existing marketing dollars to it vs putting your own money through a shell co.

But most local businesses with an actual preexisting (and sufficiently large) marketing budget are probably already strongly considering getting Illinois players signed up.

In CU, most definitely. As you get further out like the Chicago burbs or Bloomington, for example (equivalents in every market), probably not so much without someone really pushing for it, which is where owners could come in and steer “new” dollars over that wouldn’t come otherwise.

In the hypothetical world I wonder what Ayo could have made last year. I would think someone like him could get some deals in the Chicago area.

Looks like he is more skilled than Kofi at the same age. Moves decently well but not near the athlete Kofi is, but who is at that size?

Think he could be a reasonable facsimile of Kofi or some sort of mash up of Kofi and Giorgi which wouldn’t be bad. But I was kind of hoping after Kofi we would pivot more towards rim runners and stretch 5s that would allow us to play even more uptempo. Basically a Cohren type.

Bummed we missed on him but should be able to find someone similar in HS or through the portal. Will feel better after we land another big but think we will be okay.

Based on clip, he reminds me of a more mobile Luka Garza. Could be a good pickup.
If he's not more mobile, we can be 100% sure he's at least more likeable than Garza.

The vehicle to get money to players already exists. ILL-NIL.com directs every dollar to the players you specify. No shell company needed.

Very easy to dislike on the court but then after the game you hear him talk and saying he’s unlikable then quickly becomes pretty immature
And Ayo's dad and Luka's dad got along really well, they were always chatting it up before games. Cool to see

The most hateable Hawkeye is, without question, 30 year old Jordan Bohannon. Followed closely by the entire McCaffrey fam

Looks more like Lieb than Kofi IMO.

How many grammar/spelling mistakes on a web page is too many before we become skeptical about sending money through this source? Because they blew that number out of the water.
This. Weird how many people have endorsed this despite the fact 0 players have said anything about it. Not to say it's not a work in progress and just hasn't been announced yet. I noticed they aren't letting you sign up through the website yet. But don't throw your $ unless someone has validated it

This.

You hate Garza the Hawkeye...not the person.

You hate Bohannon the person. Then you punch him in the face.

Officially in the "take-a-flyer on an under-the-radar prospect mode" for our search for a big. It can work but it's a low probability move, with one such success story under BU (Giorgi B), several failures (Samba Kane, Matic Vesel, Eboigboden, Hamlin), and a couple where the jury's out (Lieb/BBV). It's a little disappointing we keep ending up here when it comes to finding bigs, when we have no problem recruiting more highly touted guard and wing prep prospects.

Validated and approved by the athletic dept from what I was told. I heard an interview of the guy setting it up. He not a marketing guy for sure. I believe it was on WDWS, but I’m not 100%. I certainly would think they would vet before putting him on the air. Maybe some inside guys can verify.

Edit: It was on Illiniguys.com. Creg McDonally is the guy behind setting it up. Real Estate guy from CU.
