I hear you- nobody that follows recruiting was expecting Casey to announce to us given we weren’t in the picture the last couple of months
But he has been the number one player in the state of Illinois for his class since a freshman, he plays a position of need, we have been recruiting him for 3 years - it was also clear at the end he wasn’t interested in us so it was likely mutual
My point is, according to some on this board we haven’t missed out on any of our top targets that have announced elsewhere (and there have been many in this class). You can pick from that list of reasons for every recruit to justify why we didn’t miss
Well, if you're waiting for them to say something too real like, "we lost this recruiting battle because ________ (KU, UK, Memphis, UNC...etc)....gave him giant bags of cash"....or "we lost this recruit because we are not a blue blood and they are", or "we lost this recruit because our program has been in the basement for 5 years"........you're going to grow very old waiting.
The "reasons" you list are media friendly, fan friendly, PC, palatable, and reasonable. And in this particular case....."he's not an everyday guy".....actually true.
So while it's fun for us to mock some of those "reasons" when we lose a recruiting battle...very few of us will ever really know the behind the scenes "reasons" and events that shape these recruiting battles.
