Aj Casey to Miami... Did we have a chance?
“We didn’t want him anyway”
“His growth plates are closed”
“There’s more to the story”
“He’s not an everyday guy”
“There’s somebody even better we want for his position”
“We never had a shot”

Just pick randomly from this list for any recruit we miss on and you’ll get the hang of it

More than a nugget of truth there, but in this particular case we didn't miss.

I agree with this in principle but definitely not in this case.

We've heard for a couple months that the staff isn't recruiting him. It's not like we're retconning our opinion of Casey just because we didn't land him

And Boom = ?
ILL in Jeremy Fears final 8. Nothing surprising. I'm dreaming of a 2023 class includes Fears, Boswell, and JJ Taylor as a core. I really enjoyed the passing with both Dee and Deron on the floor. All of Buzelis' official visits thus far have been to ACC schools, so I'm not holding out much hope there.

Taylor and Buzelis would be an exciting frontcourt. I'm going to hold on to that dream. We've still got a year till class of 2023 signings.

I'm worried about Duke getting commitments from both of them. I bet Jon Scheyer would love to nab a couple more Chicago area elites. Think how (fellow Mac Irvin Fire alum) Jabari Parker could join the recruitment pitch for Taylor. And the tall, lanky, uber-skilled games both players possess remind me of so many Duke players from over the years.

I think Jereme Richmond is the perfect comp to Casey (off the court stuff not withstanding). I remember when he announced he was going to Tinley park I thought he was a must get for us but thought he was blue blood bound. Glad he didn't take the Richmond route and commit to us as a Frosh in the end.

I hear you- nobody that follows recruiting was expecting Casey to announce to us given we weren’t in the picture the last couple of months

But he has been the number one player in the state of Illinois for his class since a freshman, he plays a position of need, we have been recruiting him for 3 years - it was also clear at the end he wasn’t interested in us so it was likely mutual

My point is, according to some on this board we haven’t missed out on any of our top targets that have announced elsewhere (and there have been many in this class). You can pick from that list of reasons for every recruit to justify why we didn’t miss

If you aren’t recruiting him it’s not a miss. We’ve missed on plenty but don’t compare this recruitment with the others. No excuse just fact

Im not so concerned about not getting instate recruits especially when our interest in them wanes. BU has shown the ability to land out of state recruits and talented transfers.

BU has said he doesn't want to coach effort and wants players that fit a culture he wants to create. Possibly explains why he has backed off some recruits.

Well, if you're waiting for them to say something too real like, "we lost this recruiting battle because ________ (KU, UK, Memphis, UNC...etc)....gave him giant bags of cash"....or "we lost this recruit because we are not a blue blood and they are", or "we lost this recruit because our program has been in the basement for 5 years"........you're going to grow very old waiting.

The "reasons" you list are media friendly, fan friendly, PC, palatable, and reasonable. And in this particular case....."he's not an everyday guy".....actually true.

So while it's fun for us to mock some of those "reasons" when we lose a recruiting battle...very few of us will ever really know the behind the scenes "reasons" and events that shape these recruiting battles.
