Welcome, young man! Looking forward to seeing you in the Orange and Blue. Of course I'll be even older by then, and so just might have to get better seats!

He's ranked in the early top 20 for 2024, so I'd bet the beach house he would.
This is fun now but will all be irrelevant once we get the death penalty for Kofi selling a piece of the B1G tourney championship net.

Destined to just be added to the Jalen Howard and Rashard Griffith were going to commit to us until probation happened lore.

Chicago sports media coverage is such a fickle beast. Let’s just hope it stays positive.
In fairness, it's not their jobs to heap praise on a program going through 10+ years of irrelevance just because the school is in state.

If we stay good and stay interesting, we will earn our praise from Chicago media and that will reinforce the success.

Any big city sports media is the same. They've got so many different pro and college sports teams they could cover. And living in the metro area are people from universities all across the country.

First, they're going to cover the Pro teams within the city itself. After that they are going to be picky about who they cover - so if you're a college team 130 miles away, you'd better be winning a lot if you want to get good coverage. If you're not winning, you're not going to get much mention.

Juwan Howard and Laphonso Ellis.

Losing Griffith kinda happened a few years later and was more part of the overall decline post probation.

Why wouldn't you? Worst case scenario it becones a Bass situation.
Not really similar. Bass wasn't from Chicago and he didn't play for MeanStreets. Tai Streets is from Chicago, but never been a fan of the UofI. If Underwood pulls a Bass on one of Tai's players, it will cost Underwood big time.

ILL is brought up constantly during Bulls broadcasts now, it's really amazing the amount of air time and praise we are getting along with Ayo.
So if the Bulls draft Christie next year and the announcers talk about MSU all the time, does that mean Illinois won't be able to beat MSU for a Chicago recruit? I don't think Ayo's pro career will be that big of a recruiting factor. The overall number of Illini players in the pros would be a bigger factor.

uhh What?
How much milage can Underwood get using a second round draft choice as his signature recruit? If he signs Taylor and JJ becomes a one and done and a lottery pick, then Underwood has something to crow about. And Gill's career has been over before most of today's high school players began following the NBA. Tim Anderson's work at Ground Zero is more pertinent to today's high school recruits than Gill's NBA career.
