Will be interesting to see how the donors' direct NIL player investments compete with same donors' athletic program $ investments.

I would expect AD net donor receipts may go down a little as more donors channel support dollars directly to players.

On balance....I would expect the Harvards of the world, have potential for largest NIL investments.
Whitman and the DIA have expressed that concern about diversion of funds.

Harvard's potential crashes into the lack of movement on admissions standards I imagine.

I thought the same thing until I clicked on his twitter link. He plays for Monteverde and has offers from Brad and UCLA, among others.
If real, here's a 2 minute Google search overview

Originally committed to Louisville.

His Twitter makes light of the reason he decommitted from their after allegations against Chris Mack.

He also throws a little smack towards a Joe Tipton tweet and a cment made by Penny Hardaway and money.

Us and UCLA both offered pretty recently.

Not seeing any official rankings on him but someone labeled him #1 international prospect. 7'3" I'm intrigued

A 5 minute search would prove he is not real. Sorry for the 2 minute search and that I cannot delete it.

We also really need to take into consideration what recruits will be looking at these days. It's not just coach, style of play, location, family considerations, available PT, etc. It's now cold hard cash.

If you are sitting there saying I'm down to Illinois a potential top 15 team who says they can't get me 500k, and UCLA, Kentucky, Duke, pick your blue blood, a potential top 5 team who says they can get me 1 M, where are you going?

This is why I'm concerned the NIL rule will ruin college basketball. Yes there are a lot of good players, but if a handful of teams are able to offer every top player more than anyone else, where do we think all the top kids are going to go?
Agreed. From now on, agents will be more important than ever. They could be THE influencing factor in a kid's recruitment.

There's really no reason that other teams can't compete with blue bloods for NIL money. It obviously remains to be seen but available money from the U of I alumni base should be at the top of the list for basketball schools. We just need people to put up the money.
You start.

Wish I could. But the point stands. The NIL is an opportunity but only if alumni get involved heavily. The economics of athletic endorsements (really all endorsements) are pretty limited. One poster mentioned Chris Paul and Aaron Rodgers. All well and good but there are a limited number of guys in any sport raking in big endorsement deals based on their ability to elevate sales, etc.. At the college level, there will be some (I think Dee would have scored big) but by and large I think a successful NIL program will be based on alumni overpaying for endorsements.

I'm in C-U and I'm not seeing much activity with NIL. Hopefully there is stuff happening more behind the scenes .

Well I said that in connection with the fact that they are State Farm spokespersons, State Farm does a lot of sports related advertising, they're a local company, and well, we play in the State Farm Center.

I fully believe they will say thanks but no thanks, but it is still a call that needs to be made at least.

The rumor that we have “cooled” on Jeremy Fears because of his size/shooting combo is comical to me. You shouldn’t have any hesitation welcoming in a top 30 player that has clear interest. Especially at the most important position of PG. That’s just me…
Let's see where he is when the next rankings come out

The two things that surprised me on Miller (besides his transferring) were how consistently determined and effective he was on the defensive end how scared he seemed to play on offense. BU gave him every chance to succeed, even starting him in games when he no longer warranted it.
Miller did exactly what BU desired him to. Just because you are starting does not mean that you get more opportunities to score. You are given a role and that role is what you play.

I'm still mystified by who we might get for the class of '23. For '24, if we get Johnson and his teammate James Brown, we'd be in position to have a top 5 recruiting class. And while we're discussing Brown, all the clips of the singer/performer by that names are interesting, but I'd be more interested in James Brown back in the day, perhaps the greatest running back in NFL history.

Watch the Chadwick Boseman movie "Get On Up" from a few years back. That will quickly change your mind. Should have won the Oscar from that year. He was robbed!

Time to start keeping tabs on '24 Jaden Smith? He's 6' 9-10" and plays for Kenwood Academy (transferred from Lincoln Park). He made Edgy Tim's Top 5 sophs list (https://www.bigtimshsbballrevue.com...n-the-chicago-area-for-high-school-basketball), so he's not chopped liver.

Obviously, Brown is the primary target when it comes to bigs. But Smith may be a great Plan B.
Wouldn't hurt to start tracking Jalen Haralson, 2025, 6' 6" guard, Fishers HS, originally in Anderson, IN. MD and IN already offered. I have family who is close to him. Definitely the tall, athletic guard BU loves.
