There are not enough F***S in the world for me to give about the Burger Boy AA game anymore. Unless you are a Top 10 ranked player, the game has become completely political and kind of irrelevant. Too bad because I used to love checking out all the players nominated and then the game itself. Back in the late 80s, all of the 90s and early 2000s I was all about the McD AA game. It was so much fun to watch, even if there was no one going to IL on either of the squads. But I haven't probably watched a game since Jereme Richmond was on the squad. The game has become a recruiting tool for the Blue Bloods and that's about it.

We may not have gotten any nominees this year, but we got 3 stud freshman coming in next year that will ultimately be program changing players.

Could not be more excited about our future with who we got coming in.
David McCormack was a McDonalds all American. Ayo wasn’t in the same class. Tells you all you need to know about what the game has become.

I am not sure we can go that far. Trent, Ayo, and Kofi were program changing players. They helped lift our program out of the burning dumpster left behind by the Thomas/Groce regime and brought us back to the level we all expect. A stack of top 100 recruits are going to keep us there, not change the program.
Yeah my wording about them being program changers was not accurate.

I think in my head I meant that they would change the program in so much as they would continue the upward trend of success with the program. While the previous (Ayo lead....) 3 season were successful, the previous 10-12 seasons left much to be desired. Some of which were just a downright disaster. So once these 3 upcoming freshman arrive next Fall, I hope that they will continue the successful culture that Underwood has created here, which will change the program from just a couple years of success to a long-term culture of sucess. Think that's kind of what I was trying to get at (albeit written poorly).

Yeah no question....players like Trent, Ayo and Kofi are the true definition of program changing players. Absolutely in debt to those guys!

Can we consider landing Trent as Groce's greatest contribution to success in Champaign?

The old blue blood powers are dead

Last championship
Duke - 2015
Kentucky - 2012
Kansas 2008

Right now Baylor, Gonzaga, Villanova appear to be top of heap

NIL allows anybody to pay their players negating the Adidas/Nike payments that were steering players to old blue bloods. It is finally an even playing field.

Since Dee graduated in 2007

Weber last 7 seasons average record 18-12 Made NCAA 3X never got past round of 32
Groce 5 seasons average record 19-15 Made NCAA 1X (his first season)
Underwood first 2 seasons average record 13-9

Underwood next 2 seasons
21-10 (13-7 conf) would have made NCAA
24-7 #1 NCAA seed
14-5 ytd

We were mediocre for Weber last 7 seasons
We stunk under Groce 5 seasons
We stunk under Brad first 2 season
So 14 years in purgatory finally ended

Its politically correct to give credit to everybody for the improvement but the two All Americans Ayo and Kofi were/are the biggest contributors

The assists part of the triple double is nice for a forward. Means he is giving up good looks for great looks and maybe doesn’t care about stats.

Of course, if he wants to get a T-D with blocks thrown in, I won’t complain. 😅

A triple double in high school is really impressive. In the NBA there are 48 minutes playing time and 40 minutes in college. You get a triple double in high school and you are completely dominating all players on that court!
Yep. I expect Rodgers to be straight-out-of-the-box good. Kid knows how to play and has the skills and motor to back it up.

If he gets his shot down, look out. Could be our version of Draymond.

Rodger's biggest "skill" is his motor. The kid is a just a fierce rebounder, defender, and overall competitor. He has some characteristics of Da'Monte, but also of Kenny Battle.

Both Rodgers and Dainja are superior passers for their size/positions. Add in Curbelo and there could be many open shots for the shooters around them

So tell me more about Ty Rodgers. Is he good because he matured early and is bigger and stronger than the 6' 3" guys guarding him? Or is he good because of quickness, understanding of the game, willingness to contribute whatever way he can, great handle, great shooter, and leadership skills. We sure need a guy his size who can do all that, but I have not seen much of his play. Educate me/us if you will.

His name cannot be mentioned without a gif, mine has a mustache

Drunk James Brown GIF
The Brown I have in mind is a bit taller than this one. Actually, someone should post a pic of James Brown the legendary NFL running back.

I think the most ridiculous McDAA was Bobby Frasor. Purely because Carolina signed him.
Had a good team at Brother Rice. I was at the state playoff game when they put Simeon out during D. Rose Sophomore year. Skilled and good shooter, but not a top 50 player by any stretch of the imagination. Rose was better than him and it was Rose' first varsity year. I feel like Amari Bailey is a ridiculous selection this year. I would be he hasn't played ten games this year. Skyy Clark should be an All American under those circumstances.
