I hope this isn't the new "they cheated" line. Maybe he thinks we're blowing smoke. He has family here in town. There's really very little indication of any of our guys getting major bucks. If it's happening behind the scenes it might be less easy to convince guys. Kofi's likeness is on OSF billboards. That's a positive.

I have no idea what's happening in Arizona. I'm not sure how anyone would know whether they're blowing smoke just as it's pretty hard to know if our staff is blowing smoke.

I'm certain they talk to the current players about what they're getting. I suppose there's no way to of knowing for sure but I think these players for the most part have a pretty strong bond in matters like this.

I have no knowledge of this recruitment outside of what I read on here, but my advice to everyone is assume he's choosing Arizona and be happily surprised if he doesn't. CB movement doesn't look good at all, but the positive is we can get a jump start on the grieving process. Looks like plenty of denial on here already so we're off to a great start!
To be fair, this is probably a solid approach to all recruitments moving forward. Expect nothing and be happy with what we get. No point crying over misses

I disagree, he’s the highest profile recruit we would have gotten in a long time and he grew up in Champaign. He’s a cery good shooter with great handles and he wouldn’t have been a one a done, he’s not the athlete the NBA covers and he’s not big or fast- he’ll be a great college player though

Would love to get him and don't dispute he would make us better, but am confident either way because for the first time in too long a time we have a staff and platform (facilities upgrades, rabid fan base/NIL opportunities, competing for BIG titles and high seeds, etc) that should attract great talent looking for development, college wins and professional opportunities.

Throwback and a different era, but worth remembering that Lou survived quite nicely in the mid 1980's when a Champaign local (son of a UI prof) and 1984 McDonald's AA spurned the Illini for Cincinnati, where he took advantage of an engineering co-op program he was interested in (and where former Illini assistant and recruiter Tony Yates was head coach) . The U of I and Champaign roots makes me even more confused if he chooses AZ. From all accounts, AZ treated him like an average Joe and has no family or history connection. A chance to play in front of his extended family 20+ times a year. Ask Luke Ford and Ayo how important playing in front of family and friends means.
Still, Ford went to Georgia first.

Seems like it would be really easy for an uniformed crystal ball picker to pick Arizona based on the fact that he just had an official visit there.

We’ve all seen the crystal ball thing change a day or two before an announcement. Maybe this time it will be us??

If you're right than that contradicts the original post suggesting Arizona might be less forthright about NIL numbers.

I think you are right

People are surprised Boswell may not want to “come home.” It’s not surprising to me at all. I moved from southern IL when I was about 10. When someone asks me where I’m from it’s not southern IL.

His family and friends are on the west coast. While I understand he has some family here and possibly some old friends. His main support system of mom and dad are on the west coast.

Id also be willing to bet he has stronger bonds with his friends he’s made in high school compared to grade school.

I get he’s from this area, but this probably isn’t what he considers “home” anymore.

To help ease the time until the decision, I recommend choosing from among these classic Loyalty options: debating the AZ/IL weather; debating the attractiveness of the AZ/IL student bodies; debating AZ/IL weed laws; debating AZ/IL practice facilities; we didn't want him; handlers ruined it; mom likes us, but not dad; players don't like BU; wasn't promised playing time; wasn't guaranteed to be the man; BIG v PAC; something, something shoes; and the always classic "bag drop."
Not his decision

There are, of course, other factors that he may be considering besides immediate family and friends. One that could be a factor is style of play. AZ is the number 2 scoring offense in the country and they play really fast. If he likes that style of play, and I have heard other recruits say that they like to run, then AZ is leading in that department. They have at least 4 players on their roster that will get a good shot in the NBA and maybe he likes the idea of playing with a team that could be loaded for a couple more years with proven players.

I really disliked U OF A under coach MIller, as there were always rumors of cheating. The new coach probably doesn't need to do that.

Just a few thoughts I have. I have NO inside knowledge. I hope he chooses us and the Big Ten!

Are we recruiting any bigs?? Don't get me wrong, I love a plethora of wings, but are we potentially rolling with just Payne and Hawkins next season?

Adrame Diongue, Boswell’s teammate. Outside of that there’s the portal and Dainja.
